This is great for us and Novak. First, I think he can win it , and he can possibly break out of his slump with a strong performance. Novak can really stroke it with no defender in front of him....teams may take notice and want him.

Maybe Miami since he's D Wade buddy and all. I'd do Novak for Chalmers.

I want Novak in the 3-point contest to show coach woodson Novak is accurate from all 4 angles of the court, this way woodson could stop using Novak as bait on the peremeter to stop the double-teams on Melo & JR on the offense.

Novak averaging 4 to 6 shot attempts per game is not a good thing to build self-confidence in Novak, his teammates, coaching-staff, and fans. Novak should be averaging 8 to 12 shot attempts per game.

A peremeter shooter with Novak skills could use 1 or 3 design plays written up for him with double-screens to be able to can a 3-ball in less than 5 seconds. We all know Melo's a closer .. but damn, the NBA top HOF Jordan gave the ball up to his specialist 3-ball shootin teammates to win 6 championships.

We can score the basketball without Novak....he goes 3-4 games without a basket. I think Woodson tries to get him shots but his bb IQ is so low he don't know how to score unless he's wide open...like in his back yard shooting by himself in Wisconsin.

It's really annoying to watch Novak at times....he goes to the 3pt line and just stand there waiting for the ball. He don't/can't cut to the basket, run off picks, pump fake and draw fouls, no nothing. II would love to see Novak cut to the basket and make a layup on a backdoor just once.

We can't continue to baby this guy ,eventually he's gonna have to step up and just play.

The same could be mention about Stat once Melo join the team .. and Stat has a career of averaging 21 pts, 8 rbd, 1 blk, on 53% fga.
Lastseason Novak & Tyson wouldve went the entire season without scoring if we didnt give LinSanity any playingtime.
Our ISO-plays just recently started passin the ball with the addition of Stat & Felton in the rotation.

JR did the dunk contest twice. He ain't doing it again, pretty sure its exclusive to first and second year players nowadays.

I know it's not happening but I'd like to see Melo in the 3pt contest. Once this man gets hot...he's unstoppable.

Why so hard on Novak. We all know he is limited at just about everything but shooting. But he still has a role on this team, and that is why he plays. People are killing him, meanwhile he is still shooting nearly 45% from 3. Yes, he has some non-factor games. But he also has some where he lights it up. Such is life for most bench players in the NBA.

His game is sitting behind the 3 point line, get used to it. When the other guy can't come off him, and someone else scores because of it, he is doing his job. Either that, or someone sags off him, he gets some good looks, and hits a few 3s. Either way, he is effective. There is a reason he plays...

I agree... People expect too much of Novak. If he had Ray Allen's skill he wouldn't be here. He'd be an all star starter

Knicks sharpshooter Steve Novak will know this Thursday if the NBA has selected him for the All-Star 3-point shootout.

If it happens, the 6-10 forward will be fulfilling a longtime goal -- and joining teammates Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and potentially James White in Houston.

"It would be awesome," Novak told ESPNNewYork.com on Monday night after the Pistons game. "I mean, it's definitely always been a dream of mine to compete at that level. We watched that all growing up and that would be a very cool thing."

Novakaine already has a 3-point shootout victory to his name. In March 2006 as a senior at Marquette, he knocked off Notre Dame's Chris Quinn in the finals at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Novak actually led the event in each round, scoring 19, 21 and then 24 points. Afterward, he went head to head with the women's college champion, Lindsay Bowen, but lost.

In Novak's favor this time is Heat guard Dwyane Wade, the captain of the Eastern Conference All-Star team, who has already recommended that his former college teammate be one of the six participants.

"It's good to have him on my side, for sure," Novak said. "It's good to have the Marquette connection."

When asked who he envisioned going up against on All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 16, Novak didn't have anyone in particular. He said it's actually an internal battle.

"To be honest, when it comes to those competitions, in your mind you're kind of going against yourself," he said. "At that level, that's what those guys do. They all can win the contest on any given day, and so in my mind, you've just got to be in the right mindset and do what you do."

On the season, Novak is fourth in the NBA in 3-point percentage (44.6, shooting 91-for-204). He's connected on 50.7 percent of his downtown makes in the baseline corner (38-for-75), and 41.1 percent everywhere else beyond the arc (53-for-129). Pablo Prigioni and J.R. Smith account for the most passes to Novak for his 3s. Prigioni has 29 assists, while Smith has 24.

As for Novak's competition, Kyle Korver (Hawks), Stephen Curry (Warriors) and Mike Dunleavy (Bucks) rank as the top three in long-range accuracy.

Perhaps they'll all be in Houston? That's where Novak got his start in the league, playing his first two seasons for the Rockets. Since then, he's gone from being a non-factor, playing only five minutes a game, to single-handedly altering how teams defend the Knicks when he's on the court -- and causing problems for those opponents.

That's what they might be saying in Houston in about two weeks.
I might throw some $$ on Novakaine to take this thing.
