115-Pound Strawweight Division coming to the UFC

The UFC has already started scouting for a 115-pound division in Mexico and Asia. Apparently they are possibly planning on having 115-pounders on an upcoming season of TUF.

I say no.... How about when they have anybody relevant at 125 and have more than 10-12 guys in that division.

When I was watching the Johnson Vs. Dodson fight on Saturday, I was thinking to myself who else is in that division besides Johnson, Dodson, McCall, Jussier Da Silva and Benavidez? They also should round out the Women's divison before they add a new division.

Right now I think it would be bad to bring it in. They need to build up the Flyweight division with guys before they can think about going even lower

Yeah they have 13 guys in the Flyweight division and only a couple officially in the women's division.

Actually 105 pounds is either called Pinweight or Atomweight. The next division down I believe is called noweight

You gotta be kidding me, they already rushed the flyweight division, and now they're going for strawweight?

But that's clearly a marketing move by the ufc, targeting the huge Asian market which would give them a ridiculous boost in profits, so it makes a lot of sense for them.

I voted unsure. As of now, I'm not a fan of anything below 125lbs.

But I understand why the UFC is doing it. I just hope it doesn't happen anytime soon.

When it does, a good way to introduce the division could be a TUF between Mexico and Japan. Have both countries have their respective seasons, with the winners fighting each other for the belt.

I think that may be why I have such a hard time watching the smaller fighters. I'm 230 so it would be hard for me to fathom watching 2 grown men fight that combined only weigh 130.... I'm sure that sounds terrible. Where do you draw the line?

But I also look at it from the standpoint of other traditional sports like basketball and football. You don't see 115-pound guys in the NBA or NFL. And you don't see individual leagues made up for smaller players in those sports either.

All this is doing IMO is watering down the cards. Because there are so few guys in these weight classes that you will see a ton of one-sided fights and rematches.

I have no problems with the addition of the 115 lb. class. Historically it's hard to get interested in fighters at that size, but it's more exposure and opportunity for the sport to grow for the little tikes.

I don't think the fights will distract from the cadre of unrecognizable fighters the UFC is currently wading through as a result of every other organization losing talent.
