Should Knicks call up Henry Sims

I didnt know how much this kid was dominating the D-League until I read this article. Makes perfectly good sense if he could help our interior D and rebounding. I would probably cut Kurt if we had to, and wait until Rasheed comes back.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/kni...alling-up-sims

Mike Woodson said before the Hawks game on Sunday night that Rasheed Wallace could practice with the team this week.

But not only are there no guarantees of that, there would be more work ahead for Wallace to get back in basketball shape. Remember how long it took for him before the season just to join the team for a practice?

Several league sources have told ESPNNewYork.com recently that the Knicks fear Wallace could be done for the season. One said, "It's not looking good." That's because Wallace's left foot injury is a re-aggravated one from the past that likely required surgery, but the 38-year-old apparently played through it.

So all in all, it could take some time for Wallace to return, if at all. The Knicks could benefit, with age in some ways against them this season, from having a younger center off the bench for inside scoring, rebounding and defense. That would further complement the team's younger perimeter at times during games. As of now, insiders believe health could be the Knicks' biggest detriment down the road this season.

So with that being said, should the Knicks give a hard look at the 6-10 Sims, who was with the team during the preseason?

One agent who represents a Knick said, "It's a good look." Even though the D-League favors guard play, Sims has dominated. He's currently averaging 16 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 31.8 minutes for the Knicks' D-League team, the Erie BayHawks. In three of his recent games, he scored 22, 20 and then 30 points in a row, and this month, he's had 18, 12 and 10 rebounding nights, including a five-block game.

At this point, Sims' agent, Todd Eley, said there have been no talks with the Knicks about his client getting called up. Of course, that would be a big decision because the Knicks would have to cut a player first. However, if Wallace decides to walk away from the game on his own terms, that could change things.

Regardless, Sims is on the Knicks' radar. He was a front-office favorite last fall, and was close to making the team behind Chris Copeland. But with Wallace, Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby in the big-man rotation, there wasn't a fit. In addition, Woodson has banked on experience and Sims would be a raw rookie. But several scouts have been impressed with his development lately, and they believe he'll be playing in the NBA soon.

I personally would love to have a young athletic big with a ton of energy coming off this bench. I liked what I saw out of him. I think he could help big time now. Who do you cut?

I don't think any of the grandfather big men are getting cut.

Great to know we've got a plan for the future.
I think the that Glen Grunwald does a pretty damn good job and he'll figure out the when to it and who gets cut.

Is this guy Sims our draft pick or free agent? how long do we have his rights?

I wonder if Chris Smith or this dude will actually be roster spots next season. I read an article that said many scouts think Chris Smith will be a quality backup PG in this league. He might be our Prigs replacement next year. Sims might be the Sheed/Kurt replacement.

When you have your core guys set, and your core system set, its much easier to find undrafted gems and slide them into small defined roles. Exactly how the Spurs do it. They lost Bowen and got freakin' Ime Udoka for a few years to hit corner 3s and defend before picking up Kawai Leonard. Guys like Blair/Splitter fill in the bench rebounder roles. Danny Green and Matt Bonner fill the spot shooters.

Its easy to find these 'gems' because your searching for a particular skill set that fits more than a true impact well rounded NBA player. It basically becomes searching for the 'best fit available' instead of searching for the 'best player available' and thats much easier to do.

Regardless... There is a high chance they can end up being scrubs because these aren't NBA proven players. So far he's done well with such limited cap space

At this point, I rather bodies that can get on the floor then none at all. Within the next few weeks, a decision is going to have to be made about Wallace. As much as he may be a influence in the locker room, if he cant play, he cant take up a roster spot.

I like the idea of bringing in a young center that can possibly grow with the team. Sign him and keep him in the D league on a game to game basis if thats whats needed.
