It's not a balk. Fans don't really understand it and boo because they think it is.
Once the pitcher has left the rubber, the pitcher is live, and so are the runners. If they aren't on base, they are eligible to be thrown out.
I don't know how you can make that illegal.

Dumb. I can see tightening up on it and calling it a balk more because guys milk it for all it's worth and step towards home and awful lot, but you don't have to ban it.

My understanding is that both runners move forward a base like a balk....meaning someone scores, and the other is moved into scoring position. Originally Posted by jej

I have a problem with this because it's both a tactical move to see if the runner will go on first movement, and because it's a live ball when the pitcher steps off the rubber....are we changing that?
