Clearly u take things too literally. Recent history has shown that in the western conference it takes about 48 plus wins to be in the top 8. If they are not at 48 wins then its a long shot. So I think projecting forward how well they have to play is the correct way of looking at it my friend.
if we can get a 8 or 10 game win streak were right there. we just won 2 so 6 or 8 more
Whatever is going to happen is going to happen now, essentially. I'd like to see the Lakers peel off a 10 game winning streak right now, and really start to hit their stride. But we'll see.
A few weeks ago, the Lakers were like 12-15 or something, and everybody said "ok now they have to do it, they just have to win x% of their games and play every single game like it's the playoffs." And then they lost 10 of 12. So it's been bad and it's gotten worse and worse the entire way.
But I agree they are playing great. I was thinking about this today, and I'd almost say they are a lock to make the playoffs at this point. If they start playing "must win" ball and can beat teams like OKC and San Antonio, then they are going to win a lot of games and that's just a fact.
It IS possible that they aren't as together as they appear right now, or Dantoni (who almost seemed surprised at the post game yesterday) might find a way to screw it up somehow. So they might be in too deep of a hole and not be able to salvage this season... a potential championship team that somehow misses the playoffs.
But we'll see. As I said I think they are a lock for the playoffs at this point, but if they lose 8 more games before March they are DONE.
