    At least 245 killed in Brazil nightclub fire

    Sao Paulo, Brazil (CNN) -- Panicked crowds pushed toward the exits as fire swept through a packed nightclub in southern Brazil early Sunday.

    Hundreds didn't escape in time from the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria.

    The blaze killed at least 245 people, many of whom apparently died from smoke inhalation, police said. Others were trampled in the rush for the exits, one security guard told CNN affiliate Band News. Investigators said dozens were injured.

    Those clubs get packed out sometimes to its impossible to get out. I was at Pacha a big club in NYC two nights ago and it was packed and I know for damn sure if a big fire broke out it would not be good news at all.

    So sad though.

    Supposedly the place was over 1,000+ over capacity and security guards were preventing some people from leaving.

    Very sad stuff.

    About 4 hours from where I live, I still don't know if some friend of mine were there at that moment. A lot of people from my city go there to study. Really a sad day here. Probably the saddest day ever.

    It's private industry. If you don't like dying in a fire, don't go to clubs that burn down. The invisible hand of the market at work. . .

    Or maybe there should be regulations to try to control such things. As there are in the US, after 492 people died in a nightclub fire in Boston.
