    Matt Hughes Officially Retires

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/matt-hu...5909--mma.html

I know a day late but it stinks . I didn't see his early fights but later on in his career loved him even if he wasn't that good, I really hoped he'd beat Penn and get one last go at it but it was not to be. He's one of my favorites of all time and he went to my college Eastern Illinois.

Very good fighter. Had an awesome career. It's too bad his striking hadn't come along a bit more. If it had, he could still be competing with today'stop guys.

I'm glad to hear this. He had a great career. I do not like seeing some of the older great fighters stay around after their chin has past its prime. Congrats Matt!

i agree completely with not wanting to see greats stick around too long and tarnish their careers by trying to hang on! i think bj penn will be the next to go into ret.
