The fact that they were able to battle back proves that they are not hopeless like I stated above. Losing 3 straight sucks even if it is in OT. A game that went back and forth to end on that. 2 terrible goals were allowed and we should have won this game 4-3.

and I can't stand the urge to take risky plays resulting in penalties.

no discipline at all. Why not take a stupid cross checking penalty Tallinder. God I hate Tallinder. Same thing with Zidlicky. Besides his offensive threat on the PP he is a liability on defense and by taking penalties.

That last goal aside, this was far from Marty's fault. A lot of boneheaded mistakes. I think having two young players coming back into the lineup probably hurt us, but they'll get acclimated again.

marty looked terrible. i got to watch it streamed, and i will break down what i saw. i think it extends to more than just one game:

goaltending. it concerns me. not right now. not that marty just gave up a 5-spot. but the simple fact that both are extremely old. even in this shortened season, one has to question our ability to maintain a consistent effort between the pipes. i sure do.

scoring. we are clicking. kovy is proving he is the best 2-way man in the league. we got lucky he was so game-ready from his time in Russia.

also, special shout-out to elias. that dude can still bring it. physical, decent on D, great at finding the net with all his shots. he's really the unsung hero of the team and has been since our previous cup runs. i am so glad when i had a choice between his jersey or sykora's or arnott's, i went with patty. he's a HoFer in my book, though his stats aren't quite there i suppose.

henrique coming back was/is huge. that dude is poised to back up his rookie year, in which he single-handedly eliminated both the rangers and the flyers from the playoffs.

larsson on D. amazing player. he's only 20, and he set up a goal or two with some crisp passes. i really like what i'm seeing from this guy.

refs. no, i'm not going to blame the refs for the loss, but they sure helped. that crosschecking call in OT was BOGUS. that sort of thing happens all the time and gets called here and there. shouldn't have been called in OT in a physical battle between divisional opponents. swallow the whistle until something blatant happens. that was not blatant. and it concerns me for the league. when fan morale is already down from the labor stoppage, we don't need refs deciding games. it smacks of nba refs when they could or couldn't call a foul on every play, or even nfl ones who call personal fouls when a pass rusher so much as breathes on the opposing qb. hockey, by nature, cannot succeed if this ref ego thing becomes the norm.

i still think we are a conference final team at present. i just hope we get the points we need for home ice. then, it's anyone's call. if we make it to the stanley cup again, i really like our chances. the west is weak this year, outside of chicago and san jose, two teams i think we match up a whole lot better against than we did the kings last year.

I'm curious as to what the broader forum's opinion is of Zidlicky. He's an interesting player - as you suggested, I often hear his name coming up for just two main reasons:

-A point shot on the PP.
    -A penalty.

What do you guys think of him?

I think his best days are behind him obviously. He sure helps move the puck around on the PP but he can't find the net. He takes a lot of tough penalties which really hurt. I really don't hate the guy. He is a player that should be in our lineup but my opinion is up and down.

didn't expect to win this game anyway. Pittsburgh is one of the best teams in the league.
