Once he didn’t get it, I thought I deserved it. The thing I keep hearing management say on the radio is that hiring me would’ve been the popular and easy thing to do. I earned it. I deserved a shot if it’s not going to be Elston. I coached 5 ½ years. I coached the summer leagues. I didn’t need a favor. Picking Elston would’ve been the easy thing to do….

“They talk about integrity,” Majerle said. “To skip over two qualified people didn’t make sense. They chose Lindsey, a guy not even on the coaching staff and who they told us was only there to help us. I think they had their minds made up already before the interviews. This is perfect for an MBA class. Hiring from outside is very tricky and can often lead to current employees feeling like they'll never get promoted. In this tricky business, however, he should just be lucky to be on any coaching staff. If he's so great, another team will recognize it and give him a shot. If his bosses do not think he would have fit there, it's not a slap in the face at all.

Get better at coaching or get a thicker skin.

They shouldn't bring in a new coach midseason, an assistant the team already knows and trusts is a better idea. The incoming coach isn't going to be able to install plays or philosophies on the fly with any success.

You're missing the point. Majerle and Turner got passed over for one of the Suns GM's (Lance Blanks) buddies in Lindsey Hunter. Hunter has only been retired for 2.5 seasons and wasn't even on the Suns coaching staff.

Hunter wasn't chosen because he was a better candidate; he was chosen because he's Blanks' friend.
