Yesterday, a person familiar with the situation told him there is zero chance the Mets meet Bourn’s asking price, considering his agent is Scott Boras.
According to the Daily News, the Mets are petitioning MLB to view their top pick as protected, so they would not need to give up draft pick compensation if they sign him.

His skillset isn't going to age well past 34 or so.
I wonder how they qualify long term?

I would do 4 years. I remember watching MLB Network and John Hart said that Bourn should age like a Kenny Lofton type where he's productive into his late 30's. So maybe Sandy sees the same thing

The max i would go is 4 years with a team option for a 5th, but obviously 3 years would be ideal

I'd be very happy to see Bourn in a Mets uniform. He could be great in Citi Field and putting him in CF would help the defense a ton.

The baseball fan in me would be ecstatic that a big name guy like Bourn would be coming here, but the realistic person in me is going to realize that his contract could end up killing us in a few years.
I'd much rather get him on a 2 year deal and pay him a normal rate than sign him long term and overpay him in the later years.
