    Woodson: Kidd to bench, eventually

    Woodson: Kidd to bench, eventually

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Mike Woodson hasn't made an official decision yet, but he raised the possibility on Wednesday that Jason Kidd will be back on the bench once Raymond Felton returns to the lineup.

Speaking about Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert handling the ball with Felton out, Woodson said the Knicks "eventually have to get back to our original point guard and Kidd coming off the bench, Kidd and Pablo (Prigioni) doing their jobs coming off the bench. We'll eventually get there."

If Woodson goes with Kidd off the bench, then Shumpert will presumably share the backcourt with Felton. That leaves open the possibility of Amar'e Stoudemire returning to the starting lineup at power forward and Anthony shifting to small forward.

Anthony has consistently exploited matchups as a power forward against bigger and slower power forwards this season.

Woodson could opt for Smith or Ronnie Brewer to start at small forward to keep Anthony at power forward. Brewer, though, has struggled mightily with his shot and Woodson likes Smith's firepower off the bench.

FRIDAY FOR RAY: Felton shot on the side late in Wednesday's practice and took "a little light contact," according to Woodson.

It's still unclear if Felton, out since Dec. 25 with a broken right pinkie, will go through a contact practice on Friday. The point guard hopes to return on Saturday against Philadelphia.

The Knicks are 5-6 in Felton's absence.

PRIGIONI QUESTIONABLE: Prigioni did not practice for the second straight day due to a big toe injury and is questionable for Thursday's game against Boston.

If Prigioni can't play, the Knicks will only have one healthy point guard on the roster in Jason Kidd.

"This is the second day now, he wasnít able to do anything, so weíve just got to see how he feels tomorrow," Mike Woodson said.

He suffered the injury towards the end of the third quarter on Monday, after he went through a screen against Nets forward Kris Humphries. But the Knicks' training staff determined the injury wasn't serious.

If Prigioni sits, Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert will have to handle the ball on Thursday.

Anthony worked as the Knicks' primary ball handler for stretches of Monday's loss to the Nets. He finished with a season-high seven assists but, as his teammates noted afterward, the role sapped Anthony's energy. He shot 11-for-29 against Brooklyn.

"Theyíre capable of handling the ball, but thatís not their position," Woodson said.

Anthony is shooting just 40 percent from the field in his last five games, but insists the added ball-handling responsibility hasn't affected his shot.

"As far as my shot goes, thatís not something Iím concerned about," he said.

This is definitely not new news....this was alredy known at the beginning of the season when we signed Kidd... Kidd just wanted to see most of his time at the end of games during the season...

    Felton/Shump/Melo/Amare/Chandler
    Kidd/JR/Novak/Wallace/Camby
    Let's get it on!

I like Amare off the bench. He brings consistant scoring off the bench.
I would have a line up of Felton, Shumpert, Melo, Camby, Chandler.
Camby was improving our defense and rebounding before he went down, hopefully he comes back fully healthy.

I like Amare off the bench too, but he's too valuable an asset when Felton has the option to run a P&R for him in the lane. It's virtually unstoppable.

Thats true, I think he will be much better with Felton. But Woodson can still give him enough minutes with Felton on the floor. The problem with Amare is his defense and rebounding. We got murdered by the Nets on the boards, one extra defensive rebound wins us the game.

True. But when Amare and Chandler play together we have amazing D. Amare is a much better shot blocker than Tyson. It gives us two bigs that guard the paint.

Why change what worked so well? Kidd at the 2 did wonders for this offense while Felton was out there. I hope this isn't about Amare becoming a starter, we shouldn't compromise the team for Amare of all people. Melo is great the 4, Kidd is great (with less minutes at the 2). Shump can fill in Brewers old role as a wing.

I think Felton/Kidd/Shump (if can knock down an open 3)/Melo/Chandler is our best lineup with Smith and Amare off the bench.

Our defense is far worse with Amare on the court no matter who is starting. He gets abused inside.

What is going on with Pablo? He seems to be a very willing passer but rarely shoots. He is a pretty solid shooter so why does he hesitate?

to me hes a pure PG to a fault all he is ever looking to do is distribute the ball get scores for his teammates, he makes extra passes when he has open shots, at his age he may never loose that tunnel vision, even when woody got on him and you could see him trying to be aggressive you could still see hesitation in his game when he sees the floor nothing he sees is a shot for himself

he has ADD he can never concentrate on scoring hes always looking for a play for the guy out the corner of his eye

This needs to be done, im sick of being undersized when we shouldn't be! We keep talking about rebounding yet we have posters running around here saying they want a starting lineup of felton, kidd, shump, melo, and tyson

I am agreeing but Small ball is the trend in the league, who starts doesn't effect our rebounding vs him not playing period

KT needs time, starting or not doesn't matter he needs to be in their until are bigs come back or we get a Kenyon type player

We weren't ever a good rebounding team at any stage this season

Id really like to Gauge Cambys influence but his in and out skews this a bit
