Marcum is a veteran here to eat innings and give the team a chance to at least be in the game.

But his primary job is to keep the mound warm until Wheeler is ready - and then to log innings if/when Santana is traded.

Again, a 1 year deal for now is perfect.

Marcum can very well have more value than Santana when the trade deadline approaches.

Certainly possible. Though I think if Marcum pitches well, they'll try to retain him for the future.

That too. Baseball is a game for entertainment, and I'd rather watch an interesting guy put up a 4 ERA than a boring guy put up a 4 ERA.

Whats with everyone ******** on Trachsel?

In his defense as slow and boring as he was he was certainly more productive than his complete opposite in Glendon Rusch..

Great move, takes less pressure off Niese; Gee, and Harvey, and they can learn from those two vets in Santana and Marcum. Plus, we can always flip him at the deadline.

I'm shocked he got $4 million as a base salary from the cheapo Mets.

We should be so lucky to have Trachsel as our #5 starter. A guy that would give us 33 starts, over 200 innings and double digits in wins, what a bum.

Unfortunately, it seems like Young and Marcum are very similar pitchers. A mid-80's fastball is never going to be super fun to watch.

Definitely like the signing assuming he is healthy. Very effective, and can definitely be a #3-type when he is healthy.
