Marcum will be nice add for #mets rotation. Team still working on a reliever and an outfielder (hint. Initials MB)

AdamRubinESPN Shaun Marcum has signed with the #Mets, per Jon Heyman.

Was just about to start a thread on this.

Looks like SA doesn't believe that improving the team incrementally is a waste of time either. Kudos to him.

What a stupid signing. We are trying to lose more games!!

Na I'm kidding lol. This actually makes sense because one of him or Santana is bound to get injured, and then they can cue in Wheeler. If it's a two year deal, I like our rotation for 2014:

    Harvey
    Niese
    Marcum
    Wheeler
    Gee

OMFG, we signed a sub-par MLB player! But he's still an MLB player! It's like Christmas or something! We're just one month late to the party.

I guess this is what Sandy meant by "an infusion of productive players." LOL.

Love the signing, finally a real MLB player signs.

The thing is a guy like Marcum can also be dealt if the Mets are that bad this year and they could add more prospects.

He's not a sub par major leaguer.

He had a 3 fWAR in 2010 and 2011 and was on pace for that last year before the injury.

    He's an above average pitcher.

I don't like the fact that they only gave him one year in a year of rebuilding but what's done is done.

They should have given 2 years.

Hopefully like Sick said if the team sucks they can deal him for specs.

Good signing for 1 year or 2.

Simple. The concern is injury of course, but f there wasn't he'd be getting a 3 year deal and a lot more $$$$.

They can bring him back if needed, if not, he's gone, he also has injury concerns, why give 2 years to an injury risk if you don't have to?

Surely this is wise spending I would have thought?

    Kudos to SA here.

Agreed. I actually wasn't too thrilled out it being a 1-year deal, but then I remembered we could deal him.

Because who knows what his asking price will be if he has a good season..

He is 32 years old and he wouldn't be worth 4 years in his next contract.

Elbow and a calf injury. Ruined his trade value.
He had Tommy John surgery also. I believe in 2009.

I should look it up but I have a stupid meeting that I have to go to.

    I hate work.
