    Holmstrom Officially Retires

Holmstrom made it official today. He left what he called, "the best job in the world." I hate to see him go. For me, it is the end of an era. I hope he truly enjoys his retirement, he definitely earned it.

Holmstrom was drafted 257th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and has played for the Red Wings since 1996.
On 12 February 2012, Holmström became only the 6th Red Wing and 272nd NHL player to play 1,000 games.

Not too shabby for a player that was once told he probably could not make it in the NHL because of his skating abilities. He made a niche for himself by working hard and going to the areas that noone else would. IMO, he was the best net front presence of any player in the league.

    There's no "Ovechkin" in "Team".

Really sad that he's gone. Was an important part of our championship teams his whole career. Thanks for everything you did for the organization, Homer!
