I've got Charter and the Lakers channel was included for free in my basic channel lineup. I could be wrong about this but I thought the deal was if another provider like Direct Tv wanted to carry the Lakers channel they couldn't pass the costs onto the customer and had to provide it for free
You guys are a bit confused about "paying for it or not". It's not going to be a direct payment to get the channel. They tack these RSNs onto your bill against your will. It's included in your package without a direct payment but you're paying for it.
Thus, the YES Network isn't free. Nor is the Lakers channel.
This Dodger deal could be the poster child for a change in the landscape of ridiculous RSN deals.
People who don't even watch baseball will be paying the Dodgers essentially. Same for the Lakers, Angels, and other teams signing new deals. The average non sports fans are getting higher and higher cable bills to support these sports packages.
Lakers, Dodgers, Kings
Bring Back the Los Angeles Rams
The Dodgers are always going to turn a profit. People can hate on their payroll, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to turn a profit. LA, NY, and Boston are always going to. STL might belong there too.
