If you think he's just the best player available for an outfield spot, it still makes more sense to stick Dom, Mayberry, or maybe even Nix in right.
According to RAJ in the presser he just had

I guess it's just me, but this offseason has been a nightmare in general.

Trade Worley/May for a CF poker chip.
    Sign Michael Young
    Sign John Lannan
Sign Mike Adams....kind of like that move.
    Sign Delmon Young

This franchise is a mess right now. No other way I can look at it. Just a mess.

We expected this the day RAJ was hired, unfortunately.

The Revere deal is a bit of a crapshoot, and the inclusion of May was unfortunate.

Michael Young as a one year stop-gap until Asche is ready or they can bring in a long term solution through free agency is fine with me.

Not a fan of the Lannan signing given that they actually had some money to spend.

Adams is a pretty good deal, even though the option is a little unnecessary.

The Young move just makes no sense.

The offseason has been underwhelming at best, but overall it hasn't been horrible. Except for this signing with the expectation that Young will start in right. That's pretty bad.

Yeah. I forgot to mention Amaro's latest report.
That Delmon Young will be our RF'er.

Every move was a crapshoot this year, and that's what I'm worried about.

I doubt D Young would replace Mayberry, given Mayberry is the only replacement+ level outfielder, besides Revere, on the roster, does this mean Nix is out and D Brown is our left handed bat off the bench? Maybe the thought process is that Ruf/Mayberry will be spelling Howard 1/2 times a week at first and Howard and D Brown would be your left handed bats off the bench.

So would you rather have D Young or Nix? I honestly don't know the answer...

Philly sports is on a mission to collect every Young in pro sports, Chip Kelly is convincing Steve Young he can run the spread formation for the Birds, I mean if Thad can be any everyday PF... why not?

I actually think this was a pretty good signing.

He was a top 3 prospect for a couple years. I think that $1M is worth it to see if he put it back together.

You mean "put it together" and not back together, right?
