Maybe not 162 games, but he would have gotten a lot on a championship caliber team.

Mets sign Marcum to a 1 year deal. Another thing the Yankees could have looked at.

Don't know the years or money, but LOVE the Marcum signing. Guy has always been somewhat injury-prone, and he isn't a flamethrower, but he's got great stuff and has pitched in the AL East before -- he would've been a nice pick up for cheap.

If the Yankees don't intend on extending Hughes after this year they should have signed Marcum for a year and traded Hughes for a bat.

Agree completely. Whatever the money is you have to think its a good deal considering its only 1 year. Would have been a great fit here considering he's been AL East tested before. Just another missed opportunity by this team to look a little bit out of the box and upgrade the team in a different way.

Sabathia
Kuroda
Pettitte
Haren
Marcum

And we could have traded one or two of Hughes/Phelps/Nova for some offense.

When will some of you realize the yanks are not making the playoffs this year. As someone has already mentioned, they are putting a "lesser" product on the field than last year. How many aging players is this team relying on? What is the plan if one of these aging stars goes down with an injury? Can the yanks afford to replace them with a scrub when they already have Nunez at dh and cervelli at catcher? You can write all you want about the future but that doesn't help the team in 2013.

Completely agree. I can't believe that a lot of the fools on here actually want to wait and see how the games play out.

Very good chance they don't make the playoffs. It just makes no sense. They could have made one or two moves this offseason that wouldn't affect 2014 and been in a much better position. I just don't understand the logic of signing Kuroda, Pettitte, Ichiro and Youkilis and then knowingly going into the season with the worst catching combination in the game and possibly Nunez as the DH.

Some fans crack me up, the team isn't going too make the play off's..It's still January. Glad to know I won't have to watch any of the 162 games the Yankees are going to play.

If we are enough games out of the playoff picture by the trade deadline, I would trade almost everyone for major league ready prospects. Doing this will really improve our team for 2014 and get us under 189M.

Teams in the hunt for a playoff spot or fighting for the division always make trades at the deadline, often giving up top prospects.

I'd make Granderson, Gardner, Ichiro, Huges, Koruda, Nova, Joba, Logan,Youkalis, Texiera all available if our chances of making the playoffs are low at the deadline. Imagine how many good prospects we'd get in return along with the extra pics that we have this year. We'd have more prospects to promote and be able to make more trades going forward.
