This Magical mix was not as present on the 2009 team as you think, do you remember the heros? Arod, Damon, Matsui... Old old and Oldest..

Here is a weird eye opener I found..

Average Age of teams in 2012

Yankees 31.40 (tanked 1st/oldest)
The Rays 29.70 (ranked 4th)

The interesting thing about that list is that you really can't draw any conclusions about the age of players and the success of the team. The Yankees, with the best record in the AL, were the oldest team, and the Nationals, with the 3rd youngest team, had the best record in the NL. The WS winners were right in the middle of the pack.

Age does bring experience which can make somewhat of a difference.

This would make a better comparison if it showed the age of the average starting line-ups, starting pitchers, closer and set-up man. Theage doesn't really matter for the rest of the squad so much, some of which are pinch hitters, occasional DH's, lefty specialists brought in to face one batter and mop up releivers.

It really depends on who the guys are. In the case of the Yankees, Rivera, Andy, Jeter, Ichiro, etc. are guys who skew the average age older but those guys make the team better. If you look at a team like the Rays, though, their three oldest guys were Matsui, Jose Molina, and Kyle Farnsworth, who weren't major contributors to their success.

But the tax bracket has to be reset every 5 years too get back to the lowest percent or some crap like that.

I really don't see the Yankees shelling out huge contracts like they use too anymore.

Clayton Kershaw - Dodgers will definitely lock up
Felix Hernandez - Won't play for the Yankees
James Shields - Might be available, but totally overrated
David Price - This is the guy you go after - He'll be older but still good and you might be able to limit his contract to 5 years and you can reset the tax bracket if need be.
Cliff Lee - Turned us down once before, but might be available but older and not as good
Johnny Cueto - Reds have a team option for 2015 and I doubt they give him up anyway
Yovani Galardo - Too soon to tell what he'll be. 3.63 ERA and 26 HR in NL Central scare me

If by some miracle Verlander, Kershaw or Cueto is available, of course you go hard after them, but I doubt they will be.

If by some miracle Verlander, Kershaw or Cueto is available, of course you go hard after them, but I doubt they will be.

The Rays will most likely trade Price and that particular team will be the ones who will have to make that decision on whether to retain the star studded southpaw or to get the sandwich pick....

This just in from the main forum....Chase Utley is a better second baseman then Ryne Sandberg and Robinson Cano.....I mean when you are able to stay healthy for 3 of the 10 mlb seasons you played, that has first ballot hof'er written all over it

Well, it's a simple explanation...Yankee haters. It's the only reason age comes into question.

1.) The whole "Yankees haven't won anything in a decade, herp derp" argument doesn't work anymore, seeing as how we won in 2009.

2.) The "Yankees Suck" argument is invalid, considering we put up the best record in the AL pretty much every year. Can't see how that sucks.

3.) Considering that there really isn't anything else negative left to say, they resort to, "you're team is old man, durrrrr", because I mean, it's the Yankees. You know, the same old guys sending these "young teams" home early, while our guys prepare there AARP azzes for the playoffs.

So in reality, if our team is filled with a bunch of old, has been losers, what does that make the teams that we are absolutely destroying throughout the season?

If you have The YES Network then you all need to watch Yankee Access tomorrow night at 10 pm or DVR it......they are featuring Kevin Youkilis and this will be a good way to see how is outside the white lines of a ball field......Some people already have negative things to say about Youkilis much the same way when Wade Boggs came to NY....

He is a Yankee and everything should be water under the bridge and just accept him as a true Yankee and don't wait for a grandslam winning HR to earn his pinstripes like Tino and Giambi had to do before they were accepted.....
