Yep was just thinking that.. very nice low risk signing for our 4th bench bat. Can't really complain.

Oh he's terrible, and not to mention very injury prone.

I suspect they wanted to fill the 25th man with <someone> so they took a low risk signing. Doubtful he even sees' any playing time, or very little of it anyways....

If we were signing him to compete for a spot in the lineup I'd really scratch my head but given it's the 25th guy and most of those guys aren't anything special it kinda makes sense IMO.

It is... which is kinda puzzling given Im almost positive they could have gotten him with nothing guaranteed.

I mean, it's only 750k but feels like a McGowan type risk, just unnecessary....

Derosa hasn't been any good since '08 or '09, I think a better option could have been found.

So 750k and a roster spot for...a cheerleader? Yikes. You can sell me on a guy's clubhouse presence having some kind of value, but not when a guy is literally useless on the field. At least a guy like Vizquel had some flexibility defensively, I can't think of a single tangible baseball skill DeRosa provides a team anymore.

Dunno either really... I guess they wanted a "vet leader" for the 25th spot and if they find someone better between now and ST they can just dump him.

Seems a little strange to guarantee his money, that's my only real complaint (apart from he's just not very good in general).

Considering they said the budget is already stretched thin I don't get why they would waste any money on DeRosa.

I realize it's a minor move but this is so dumb.
