    Taxes

Ok, so this is the first year I am doing taxes by myself. Should I use something like turbotax or go somewhere and have them done?

it obviously depends on how complicated your taxes are. It varies person to person and country and state to country and state.

I would get help your first year doing them though. You don't want to make an error.

If you know someone who is an accountant, ask them for some advice or spend the extra money and hire someone this year.

If you see its not complicated or you learn about the process then the following year you can do it yourself.

Unless you are funneling money from a pass through entity (LLC or something), then you should be able to do your own taxes. I can't see paying someone to do my taxes.

It shouldn't be terribly difficult I'd assume.

As long as you don't have huge investment incomes and just have a w-2 and some interest income then your taxes will be very straight forward.

Pretty much, but even investment income shouldn't be difficult to file.

True but could be a little tricky for a first timer.

This year's (2013) taxes are the ones to be concerned about.

I'm gonna get taken to the cleaner on my taxes according to H&R Block and TurboTax estimators. I hope they're wrong.

Usually they are able to give you a pretty good estimate. I would guess they are going to be pretty close to what you will have to pay unless they are missing a credit or exemption for you.

I've used esmarttax the last three years. It takes like 20 minutes and costs like 40 bucks or something.

Yeah it is safe to illegally download TurboTax? I download music all the time but wondering if it would be risky in doing so on TurboTax.
