I'd love to say blow it up and tank, etc. but I just can't see that happening. It's not like Nonis was not involved in these last 5 years when this team was suppose to be turned around. Atleast he's got a little better hand that Burke was dealt and it might be possible to tweak it by getting rid of a couple of the bad contracts (Komi) and make better FA signings. Goaltending is obviously HUGE as far as determining the outcome of a game and the Leafs have been let down time and time again the past few years. I haven't given up on Reimer quite yet, this is really the year to find out what we have in certain players and hopefully ridding bad contracts.

You're talking a different era when Gilmour was in his prime. Notice how his stats dropped off starting in 95? Sundin doubled Gilmours production in a tougher era and with ******** linemates.

20 years ago, Doug Gilmour put up 32 goals, 84 assists for 127 points (33 more points than Sundin ever scored as a Leaf)...the next season he put up 27 goals and 84 assists for 111 points (17 more points than Sundin scored as a Leaf)...did Sundin ever break the 100 point mark in a Leafs uniform? Now use the excuse that Sundin never had anyone to play with. Look who Gilmour's wingers were when he put up 127 points.

Sundin was a better Leaf than Gilmour. Gilmour only had 2.5-3 good years as Leaf, Sundin had over a decade.

Your year of Gilmour's 127 points is at the peak of the offensive era of the NHL.

If you look at era adjusted stats:

Gilmour 1992-1993 26 Adjusted Goals 76 adjusted assists 102 adjusted points 8.7 Offensive point shares Nikolai Borschevsky wasn't exactly a hall of famer but he was excellent by almost any account. He ruined his knee the following year but many thought he could have been a late bloomer star. He had 79 points that season. Glenn Anderson was also on the team.

Sundin 1996-1997 42 Adjusted Goals 55 adjusted assists 97 adjusted points 9.3 Offensive point shares. The highest scoring winger on the team that year was Wendel Clark who had 49 points.

People underrate Mats. You can't compare him to Sittler or Gilmour when the era of hockey was quite different. For example during Gilmour's legendary 1993 year, Sundin actually had a better season scoring 47 goals and having 116 points for the Nordiques at age 21.

Sundin certainly had a better career than Gilmour even if you want to argue their peaks against each other.

He's 14th all time in offense point shares, Gilmour is 48th.

From age 30 onward Gilmour had 0 8.0+ Total point share seasons, Mats had 4 (and got screwed out of another one by the lockout)
