Jaguars hired Jedd Fisch as offensive coordinator

"The Miami Hurricanes' offensive coordinator and QBs coach, Fisch will be returning to the NFL after two years in the college ranks. Fisch worked with new Jaguars coach Gus Bradley in 2010 in Seattle, serving as Pete Carroll's QBs coach. Still only 36 years old, Fisch has nine years of NFL experience. He beat out in-limbo Saints OC Pete Carmichael for the job."

so is this suppose to make me believe that Gabbert is going to have a chance to win a job running a spread offense? I almost cant even remember seeing him run in college, he seems so unorthodox

He ran the spread in college, he just never ran all that much... Who knows, maybe it'll work out.

Now all we need to do is find a DC.
Nothing to see here, move along.

They talked about getting Blaine to run more last season, but he was banged up most of the year. Tough to ask a guy to run with the ball when he has a torn labrum in his shoulder. Jake Locker got shut down for that, and didn't run much when he returned. Locker was much more of a "dual threat" type of QB, as well. Gabbert could do it, but he will last longer and probably be more successful as a pocket quarterback. Some of these guys set up the pass with their running ability, (Newton, Griffin, Wilson), some set up the occassional run with their passing ability (Rodgers). The latter is more effective over the long term.

But Blaine tested as well as anyone on average in the Combine events. Across the board he was top 15 since they began compiling the results at the position.

Gabbert had pretty much the same Combine stats as Wilson did, if you average them out over the five events they participate in. Wilson finished ahead in three events, (but not by a lot), Gabbert finished ahead in two. Blaine was 6 inches taller, 25 pounds heavier, and two years younger when he did it as well.

    Tom Brady at the combine

lacks mobility to avoid the rush
does not throw a tight spiral
    system type player
    slow
    skinny

Those things are all true. Brady can't run the football at all. He is a system quarterback who was lucky enough to land in the right system. He's been there ever since. But he was 24 before he got his first start. Gabbert is still a ways from that.
