Greg Olson New OC for Raiders

    Steve Corkran‏@CorkOnTheNFL
Breaking news: Raiders hire Greg Olson to be their offensive coordinator, according to person familiar with the situation.

Interesting hire. Could be worse, could have rehired Knapp for a third time.

Does anyone know what kind of offense he likes to run?

This is a quote from Greg Olson:

"I just think for me, I’ve had a tremendous amount of experience as an NFL coach," Olson said. "I’ve been exposed to a lot of different systems and a lot of different coaching styles. I worked for five different head coaches, really more than that when they fired guys and brought in interim guys, so I’ve had an opportunity to learn from a lot of different coaches. I’ve had a chance to look at different personnel on different teams I’ve been on, and I’ve learned to fit offenses to the personnel you have."

Hopefully this means that Greg Olson will work with the strengths of the personnel on the Raiders offense and bring the best out of them.

I like this hire. Worked under Gruden and Scott Linehan. I wonder if Saunders will remain on the staff.

Another article when he was brought aboard in Tampa/

Greg Olson's resume prior to taking the Bucs OC posit:

    1987-89: Washington State graduate assistant

. Counts then-coach Dennis Erickson as a primary influence

1990-93: Central Washington offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach

    . A QB there from 1983-1984

    1994-96: Idaho quarterbacks coach

. Counts then-coach John L. Smith as a primary influence

    1997-2000: Purdue quarterbacks coach

. Tutored future NFL star Drew Brees

    2001: 49ers quarterbacks coach

    . Jeff Garcia threw career-high 32 touchdowns

2002: Purdue tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator

. Brought in current Broncos QB Kyle Orton

    2003: Bears quarterbacks coach

. With Kordell Stewart, Chris Chandler and Rex Grossman, ranked 30th in passing offense

    2004: Lions quarterbacks coach

. With Joey Harrington, ranked 23rd in passing offense

2005: Lions offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach

. With Harrington and Garcia, ranked 26th in passing, 27th in offense

    2006-07: Rams offensive coordinator

. With Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, ranked sixth in offense in 2006, 24th in injury-plagued 2007

    2008: Bucs quarterbacks coach

. Ranked 11th in passing offense

John L. Smith heavily influenced Bobby Petrino, Tom Cable and Scott Linehan. Olson also has worked with Mooch, Gruden and Dennis Erickson. Not the sexy choice but the more I look at this the more I like the under the radar flier.

Greg Olson is bringing back the power blocking and downhill runs favored by RB Darren McFadden. Say good-bye to the zone-blocking scheme.

He already sold me. Never heard of the guy but I tend to have a good judgement of character. We'll see what this guy has but he already had me at "hello" with intelligent comments like that!!!

a coach who is talking about adjustments!!! I can barely contain myself.

I was like who? What? At first but now I'm liking the signing! Power blocking scheme!! >>>>

Love him or hate him, call him overrated, a punk, chump, and whatever blasphemy you people speak, fact of the matter is there is no denying he's the best of his generation and will go down as a top 5 player ever...what he has done for the NBA is amazing he's the biggest name in basketball all around the world and his chase for number 6 continues! All that matters though to us Laker fans is #17! Lakersnation! #16to17

Greg Olson is a power-blocking proponent. No more ZBS. Olson has overseen career-high rushing years from Steven Jackson & LeGarrette Blount.
