they are almost identical to last year. if anything, his per 36 is WORSE than last year.
Derozan is not a superstar that can control a game like a Durant or something, but he is still getting better and is a good player. He is being put in a role thats unfair to him right now. Teams have their defence around him, he faces the best defenders, and the amount of time he gets the ball in iso plays is crazy.

Yes he falls off but he tries to keep the ball moving a little too much like Lowry has. If he learned to dribble good it would take him a long way, but to say he is bad or doesnt deserve to start is taking it too far. Just remember how he was playing early in the year when Lowry was the focus of defences.

is it? he was handed the reigns of the shooting guard since he got in this league. he has been playing bad. It doesn't matter if you start or not, its who finishes the game as well. and Derozan hasn't lived up to expectations nor his new contract.

we all remember Derozan always playing well at the beginning of the season. But he was playing undersized guards as well.

Daouds said the same thing about Ross about how defenses have adjusted to his game BUT it looks like they have made more adjustments to Derozan more so than Ross. At least Ross can shoot it from long range with some consistency. Can't say the same with Derozan. he's been playing piss poor this whole month January and if Lowry can be benched for being too selfish, I don't see why Derozan can't be benched for sucking.

you're supposed to play your best players but Derozan has been playing far from it.

Yeah he was given the shooting guard spot then which shouldn't have happend but its not like he had much competition like Ross does. But Demar for sure deserves to play the minutes he gets. He has a good mid range game, a developing post game, and his 3's arnt as bad as everyone says but its not his game anyways.

And Ross is extremely streaky but yes he is a better 3-point shooter (not mid range though). But I still say if Lowry is playing like he was, Demar would get back to how he started because he can't handle all the pressure. He hasnt been playing his best but its not 100% his fault, he needs to be set up and gets too many isos. But starting to bench Lowry AND Derozan would be a little much, you want them to be accountable but you dont want the to be scared to make a single mistake. Mind you Lowry is losing his minutes because Jose is playing amazing and we were winning when he started, but still.

meh, as of right now, Derozan should be on the bench at the start of the game. for the time being. until he proves he belongs there once again. maybe it will light his *** and get him motivated.

he doesn't even seem interested or motivated to get to the basket or even post up. When was the last time Derozan posted up on a regular basis. Heck he had wade on him and he didn't even post him up and Wade is a smaller guy.

So basically, you're saying, he can't handle the pressure and we should continue to start him b/c Calderon will pass it Derozan for him to create for himself (but he cant?) that is messed up. we all know Amir is at his best when Calderon plays with him but you're saying Demar plays worse with Calderon?

if we can get Gay in return for giving up Derozan as part of the package. do it.

Derozan has lost his mojo. where did the wheels come off? you can see the way he is playing today. not even forcing his own game. there's something wrong.

Wade is one of the best guard defenders and he is a strong guy, but yes I agree he should post more and drive more like he was but shouldnt the coaches get him to do it? And yes Derozan plays better with Lowry because he opens takes attention of him. Jose is great pick and roll player so the bigs benefit from him more than guards.

Dwane Casey thinks DeMar Derozan has some bad habits he needs to get rid of.

Despite his game-winning shot on Thursday against the Orlando Magic, the Toronto Raptors head coach told the Jeff Sammut Show on Friday that he would like to see DeRozan take a more aggressive approach and not rely on his jump shot.

“I’ve been talking to DeMar about for the past couple weeks is about being assertive and in attack mode at all times and not settling for turnaround jump shots,” Casey said on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. “It’s something he did not do against Miami and bailed the defence out. But (Thursday) night, we talked to him about being aggressive, not settling for turnaround jumpers, which is a habit. He has to be able to recognize the alley to basket to drive and attack.”

DeRozan has had his share of ups and downs in his fourth season but Casey believes the next step for the USC product is taking charge as a much-needed closer for the Raptors.

“(He) did a tremendous job in the fourth quarter as the go-to guy (against Orlando) and that’s what he came into the season to be, a closer. He had a tough couple weeks but made up for it last night in the fourth quarter.”

Casey is seeing improvement but isn’t surprised DeRozan has fallen into a common pattern that many inexperienced players go through early in their NBA careers.

“No question. This happens so many times,“ he said. “I had Rashard Lewis as a young kid (in Seattle). All he wanted to do is shoot jumps shots. We put him in the post and got him used to the physicality of the NBA...Terrence Ross is going through the same thing right now. His next step is to pump fake and drive. Those things are experience factors that come into play. Unfortunately, getting that experience comes with growing pains. DeMar, last year, he did a better job and he got away from it this year.”

In an ideal world, the Raptors coach would like to see DeRozan using his athleticism to attack the basket on a more consistent basis.

Casey has shown DeRozan video of Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and one of his former players, Gary Payton, worked with him last summer in Las Vegas during the summer league.

“Video is a very, very good teacher," Casey explained. "Gary (Payton) spent time with him. One of the best post-up point guards in the NBA. His game was in the post. Unconventional but he would quarterback the game from the low post area. He spent time with Demar in Vegas."

The Raptors have seen improvement after a slow start the season where they were acclimating to a lot of new bodies to the roster.

Casey would obviously like to have a playoff-calibre team right now but understands his young team is still a bit raw and going through the process of learning how to win on a consistent basis.

“Learning from mistakes is how you build a team. I remember Oklahoma City, how many mistakes they made in their first three years and look at them now. That’s what we’re going through now with our team. We’re working together and committed. It’s not always going to be peaches and cream and it’s part of the process. (We’re) staying together as a team and organization and good things will happen.”
