    Free Agency Needs

I know there's a general off-season thread, but t there's about two months left until free agency starts, and this makes the topic more specific.....so there's a lot of needs the giants have to address, and not all of the needs will be filled by the draft alone, so free agency will be big...there's some decent veteran corners like Jenkins & Hayden, some good OG and OT, and some other defensive notables like Urlacher...anyways, what position stand out as the biggest needs to be addressed in Free Agency? and who do you want the Giants to sign, and which players do you want the giants to re-sign back from hitting the free agency market? love to hear your feedback....and in case you don't know who are the free agents for the 2013 off-season, here's a list of UFAs,' and RFAs' from every team: http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/featu...By+Team&y=2013

To me (and I feel like Reese has the same philosophy), Free Agency is about picking up veteran guys that can still play the game and also put the younger players under their wing. We have veteran OL, LB and DL but aside from Webster, our oldest CB is going into his third year in the league (Amukamara), one of which he spent the majority of the season out with a broken foot.

We're projected to be OVER the cap. Don't expect much of anything in free agency.

Maybe, and I've been a big supporter of them, but recently (after watching these playoff teams....SEA, SF, BAL) I'm realizing I make them out to be better than they are.

Well they're obviously not that good, but people treat our linebackers like their the 32nd ranked in the league. Blackburn, Boley, Rivers, Herzlich and Kiwi are all starting-caliber (albeit some better than others). We have good depth but were riddled with injuries throughout the season.

I feel our f/o will look to replace osi as a high value loss ..

We need a CB to fill in for Cwebb ASAP possibly drafted .

Also feel we grab a CB vet whose underperformed by his draft value/hype but has become a vet who can play solid Back up roles for u ..u know like teams did with Ron dayne in a way .

As far as TE that's always a who knows ..there's f/as like cook or just bring back Bennett ..there's always tons of TEs in the draft or wrs who should be TEs ect.

At RB I wouldn't be too shocked to see us let every one walk (brown who ever else ect..) but also if it helps the cap possibly look into trading or cutting AB. As he's older and his legs and feet are always soo beat up it has to catch up to him and the reason I feel it would be this year we'd do so etching like that is bc..
    - we have DW yes I know do they trust him fully yet?

    - we need cap space to resign big names to us at minimum Victor Cruz , maybe Stevie and KP .. Others like Bennett or rivers (idk who the front office wants to keep lol) .

    - the f/a market and draft is stocked with RBs who could be looked into as cheaper options. Heck even keeping brown is cheaper and just as effective as keeping AB .

    - there's RBs like addia , benson,Moore , Goodson, Leonard , many others buti think they'll be looking for a pay dày which defeats the whole purpose plus. Prospects at RB like m ball who could fall to the third , l bell whose a 6-2 power back which compliments DW more ..but of course a vet must stay to protect Eli,.(brown). Also there's always undrafted or cut players after the draft..

    - maybe we don't resign Cruz (I don't even like saying it but play along for a a second ). .. Saves us cap room him and KO not coming back. And in the draft/ FA ,arkym we can look at
    - Johnny Knox , Avery , Louis Murphy , Mohamed massaqoui (team gave up on him fast or he'll be resigned), Brandon Tate
-or rookies like K.Allen , T.Austin, D Hopkins ,even Robert woods , Terrance willams , maybe Justin hunter if they feel he's going to grow into a solid no alligator arms guy..

Then again does saving the money and counting on any of those guys plus nicks and RR in his second season make it worth loosing Cruz?

Lb- need to figure out what we expect from kiwi and if we r happy with it ..or move him and not make the same mistake we just did with osi (not trading him) .. Rivers , others are they wha we can play with? Worth resigning? Boleys old ..do we have his replacement and fill in for his injuries? Should we cut bait with him?

-fas at lb - there's some names like r McClain should be out there as well as Arron curry ( I still remember thinking he would be good..nope) Durant ,Lawson , Rey ma (probably resigned would be nice), few others but slim pickings as their own teams and other more desperate (just need that one lb now and will deal with other positions later ect ect). Teams might beat us to the punch or raise the price too much ..

And in the draft - sure Manti Teo has bad pub but if he's good why not , k green sounds like boley (athletic lb whose not the biggest but can time his blitzes well solid speed and agility rare for the position). , 6ft4 chase Thomas , Sean porter(boley styled again..cover lb with peed over power), sio Moore (liked what I read for a 4th rounder). Many others .

We could look to replace Philips and keep brown .. He can't cost tha much on a short deal with insentives Added ..

KP with injuries our cap and needs every where basically. H could be gone .

Sorry but just wanted to say

There are always these similarities of players of course but this year there are tons of players who can play like or out play Cruz , boley , better MLB than we have , I'm sure Olinemen but I didn't check , des and DTS for the most part who can outshine what tucks been doing (no not JPP and if tuck returns to form and gets his head straight he's hard to out out play as well ) .. RB Bradshaw , CB Webster of last year! (Use to be a stud) , depth CBS. , even KP as he didn't play enough for me to say he got a fair shake but then again being hurt a lot is a knock..

Prospects I've listed for replacing Cruz are up there we'd need a slot guy really .. RR looks to be the real deal ..question is does the front office want him to now replace the outpatient injured nicks? I believe it's Austin being compared to Harvin/Djax/Wes Welker (amazing slot recievers) while Allen compared to jordy Nelson ..

We all know the deal with RBs and with protecting Eli so a vet may be better but we could use 3rbs and for cheap if we draft one and that could be at any point I think we just need a more powerful healthy less injury prone back who'd come cheap ..over AB ..whose gotta be close to done .

DES- osi leaving , tuck not playing worth his contract or leading , kiwi being a ? Not by his own fault though leaves me feeling we aim of a De some how ..doubt it would be a big name or at least not in f/a maybe we grab a cheap productive vet ..maybe we draft someone

Prospect at de I like for us to fill osi and or kiwi completely is damontre Moore they say he compares to john Abraham of the falcons , also has speed , agility ect like osi or john and forces fumbles (osi anyone?!) ..he can play 4-3 and 3-4 (kiwi!!) he's 6ft4 250 for a 1st overall pick though I doubt it..

DE-Ezekiel Ansah - sounds like a stud ..freak athlete who could of played nba , 6ft5 270lbs , fast and powerful playing every D position in the front seven from weak ,middle ,strong lb to DT, re, LE and NoseTackle. Has room to ad more strength without taking a hit to his solid speed ! .. Supposedly compares to JPP but I'm fine with saying kiwi mixed with osi minus FFs ..

But most the DES I've read about would be at least our first overall pick.

CBS and safeties - there's tons of tall or speedy and some mixed at all positions (CB SS FS ) .. As for FAs ..

CB- Sean Smith is a nice physical CB , Chris Carr, Cary Williams , DRC(probably resigned but if not should we try and get him he probably won't be too cheap even if the eagles hurt his value)

safeties - Byrd , goldson(probably both resigned) , r.martin , Louis delmas , glover Quinn, few others but limited so far.

Safeties in the draft- 6ft2 TJ MCDonald is compared to Taylor mays but better in coverage and not as fast..weird comparison but he seems like a solid pick in the early 3rd..
    Josh Evans 5th rounder
    Early pick Phillip Thomas
Robert Lester 3rd rounder ball hawk
Cooper Taylor 6ft4 32+inch arms 6-7th round projection but could become a great player on our team with our Dline and his height..he's not so slow either though he ran a 4.57 which can be seen either way its unofficial and I have no video to go off of .

    CBS - x Rhodes
    Obviously dee milliner
Desmond trufant (mid rounder with blood ties to the nfl with his bros Marcus and Isaiha (Seahawks and IT is a jet or former jet).
    Jamaar Taylor
    Jonathan banks
Maybe TM the honey badger .. We could use a steal like him(if he goes back to his former form of 1st round top 10 talent ect..) and the risk should be minimal.

Boley played badly after starting off well, Williams and paysinger are back up, Blackburn although played well he shouldn't be starting. Our linebackers stink. Kiwi might our best and that's not a good thing. Plus he's moving bak to the dline

That's fair. I think the biggest problem is that we have role player LBs. Every one of them is REALLY good at one thing, but not at others. We don't have that all-around solid LB like Pierce once was. Williams is a solid coverage LB, but he's not stacked with strength and making great reads.

I just want that big, leader, playmaker, smart, strong, fast MLB. Gladly give up value in other areas for him.

And that's a problem particularly when it comes to this team and Coughlin, he really doesn't like to play rooks.. So how are we gonna fill these holes? If we can't do it through FA then obviously first instinct is to look at the draft but like I said what good is that when Coughlin is so hesitant to play the rooks?

Another problem is Snee dropped a big hint that next season might be his last.. If so those are some big shoes that need to be filled..
