Pete Caroll and Jim Harbaugh seem to be making the transition fairly well to the NFL, while we all remember the disaster that was Nick Saben and Bobby Petrino coaching in the NFL.

Pete Caroll wasn't even "Pete Caroll" the first or second time he got a head coaching job. He was bad with the Pats and abysmal with the Jets. Hindsight being 20/20, I'm frankly amazed that Seattle gave him a 3rd shot at redemption.

lol The state of the Detroit Lions and the Jets under Caroll being abysmal aren't mutually exclusive you know. AFAIC, they can both hold hands and sing kumbaya around the same sputtering campfire together.

Caroll and Harbaugh built tough-minded defensive juggernauts. Chip Kelly is more known as an offensive guy. We'll see how that plays out, but I would assume the more defensive minded guys fare better than offensive. That's just my opinion though.

Also, the two above seem to be guys who really know how to fire up a team with their own excitement. They look just as intense during games as players do. That has to help them win over the locker room. I'm not a Chip Kelly specialist, but I'd say it would probably benefit Kelly to bring that kind of excitement to the NFL.

He was handed the one team that is built to run his offense so if Vick (assuming he's back) Maclin and Jackson can all stay healthy and motivated then I don't see why this team can't put up ridiculous numbers.

Offensively he has some targets that he should be able to do some wonders with in Maclin, Jackson, and McCoy. All three of them can turn on the burners and McCoy is one of the best at stopping on a dime and changing direction. However, I really really do not want to see Vick as an Eagle next season, nor do I want to see the same system he ran at Oregon. It's really a boom or bust type of a hire, but he seems to have an intelligent head above his shoulders and offensively I see a similar up-tempo Patriots offense. He's going to spread the ball and need a quarterback who can release the ball quickly.

I'm surprised no on brought up Steve Spurrier in this discussion. A guy who was also an offensive guru who tried to make it in the NFC East. Playing the odds I'd say Kelly is more likely to be a bust but we'll see. At the very least it should be interesting.

That doesn't make Harbaugh a defensively coach, necessarily. He's actually a very good offensive mind. He had most of those pieces in place when he got there, he just did what smart coaches do: create the best possible system for the talent that you have in place. He's smart enough not to force a system on his team that won't work for them, which is more than a lot of NFL coaches are willing to do.

I think his second NFL head coaching job will be great, this one will merely be acceptable. He's one of the few people who have figured out that you're ****ing stupid if you don't run a Patriots style offense. Consistently getting open receivers for 5-15 yard gains kills any other type of offense currently in the NFL. It's the next evolution of the west coast offense.

It all depends on personnel. Pete Carrol and Jim Harbaugh have great Front Offices that have built good teams. I think Chip Kelly is smart enough and creative enough to win in this league with the right players. First off, he needs a QB.

With the offense weapons ( Jackson, Macklin,celek, McCoy, either foles or Vick at QB ) and a decent defensive already 9-7 first season 10-5 second season you hear it first!
