I like that he can work up to the 3 YR $39M dollar deal through incentives and compensation based on health and other things. Good job, Ben. Though it did take way too long.

Nice deal, although I'm worried about the hip.

Adrian Beltre 2.0 anyone? (at least in terms of how much bang we're going to get for our buck)

If we get a pick out of him, I'm ecstatic. But I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Can't agree. His issues must be severe, and are certainly not seen commonly outside of 3B at his age. The fact that he has two big time outlier years, hiding his mean slash is also disquieting. His high side here is about .245/.350/.500, which isn't too bad at all if he plays 140 games. OTOH where does he bat? 5th? Ortiz and him back to back on the bases are automatic DP's on grounders to fielders.

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

Hip scares me a ton but this deal is brilliant.

Now I'd sign someone like Casey Kotchman or Nick Johnson as defensive replacements in certain situations to take some of the load off of Nap at 1B

I'd rather see something like that, and deal Salty at the same time. Still NJ is always hurt and CK can't hit his way out of a paper bag.

Yeah, I'm not in love with those two options at all but they are the only really viable ones still left on the market that play a decent 1B.

Overbay is out there I guess.

I really like the idea of a healthy Napoli in Fenway with that swing... IF he stays off the DL I would think 30 HR would be within the realm of possibility.

Casey Kotchman isn't a defensive replacement option anymore. Look at his defensive numbers over the last couple of years. He's below average in the field now.

I was simply saying, OF the people that are available... He's probably the best... Or Nick Johnson...

I never said he was a gold glover.
