Jesus Leo, you ****ing hate Phil Hughes. Don't give me this crap about wanting him to do well.

But seriously, if he wants 5/60-75 tell him to talk a walk. I agree with this.

I disagree on all 3 fronts as far as durability, growth and potential.

2 of the last 3 years he's been healthier.

He started throwing a change up and slider more this year.

Dude pitched well in the playoffs a few times. Saying he has zero big game potential makes no sense.

    Stop the hate.

Timely hitting outweighs pitching in my eyes.

You need to score more than the other team to win. Whether its 2-1 or 10-9.

    Just fkn win.

Career ERA+ of 99. That's basically the definition of league average

I think the fact that he had such high aspirations his actually efficiency is seen as subpar. He's a league average pitcher, which should fare well pitching from the number 4 spot in the rotation. After this year though, I'm not so sure.

    Average stinks. Hence, my point.

Unless we aspire to be 81-81.

Average is average. He has the potential to be more. I believe in Phil.

Average guys pitch in the #4-5 spot unless the Yanks get a rotation with all #1-3 guys.

Pay Hughes and keep him around. Our rotation is basically screwed going forward as-is:

Sabathia - Ok. We'll have him for a few years pitching well.
Andy & Kuroda - Probably their last seasons.
Nova- Took a step back last year, and was already not as good as Hughes.
Pineda - Coming off surgery and we haven't seen him pitch at all yet.
Banuelos & Betances - Oft injured, and not even like they're ready to come up yet.

So after this season, we have CC Sabathia and..... no one. Maybe Nova turns it around? Maybe Pineda comes back strong? Maybe one of our two kids are ready to step up? Unless you wanna shell out huge money for Josh Johnson, Matt Garza, Adam Wainwright, or Tim Lincecum, our options are limited. He still has a fly ball problem, but he's better than other options for us at his probable price range.

I think you were as hard on Hughes last season as you were on Swish. You may have to create a new level of hatred for Hughes.
