This whole 'good pitching wins you championships' thing is also overblown.

We had GREAT pitching last year and got crushed.

Timely hitting outweighs pitching in my eyes.

You need to score more than the other team to win. Whether its 2-1 or 10-9.

    Just fkn win.

Hughes has been known to go down with a few injuries. I never said Andy wasn't the better pitcher. He absolutely is.

    Just for fun...

    AP 1999 - IP 191.2 H 216 BB's 89 K's 121 ERA 4.70 WHIP 1.59

    PH 2012 - IP 191.1 H 196 BB's 46 K's 165 ERA 4.23 WHIP 1.26

I really started this whole thing to really just point out similarities in their ERA. I wasn't bashing Pettitte by any means.
Ok pettitte did have a pretty bad 99 season...lol... but remember in that ERA you had 3-4 guys hitting 60+ hr's every year... the offense was insane back then.

My bottom line with Hughes is he's an average pitcher, and yes I'd like to keep him, but if some team is going to pay him 5/75m i say take the pick and let him walk.

If our offense was anywhere near the level of mediocrity in the postseason we would have went to the World Series. Very disheartening.

If I'm Hughes I look at my home-road splits and take a deal elsewhere. Maybe even a 1 year deal in a pitcher friendly park, and use that to get a better multi-year deal in 2015.

Lets examine the 'Phenom' Phil Hughes.

Entering his 7th MLB season. Here are the amount of innings pitched each previous year:

    72
    84
    36
    176
    74
    191

    Career ERA. 4.39
    Career Postseason ERA. 4.54

    I wouldn't pay him jack.

I see it differently. Things that the stats doesnt tell you is: he can pitch for the Yankees and he can pitch in the AL East. There are not a lot of those out there, especailly those coming from the NL. See Johnson, Vaquez, Weaver, Pavano and even Lackey (for the Sox). That being said, Hughes is a serviceable 3 in the rotation. Too bad the window has passed to lock him up long term. I know people would like a rotation of CC, CC, CC, Kershaw and Felix. Be realistic. You dont get to 189 unless your homegrown talent can help out consistently.

    I agree, Doritos.

I like Phil and want to root for him, but there is NO FKN WAY I'm paying him the 5/60-75 that he is going to command.

He has shown zero durability, zero growth and zero big game potential.

I couldn't have said this better myself. It's a contract yr and Hughes's 92 mph straight fast ball isn't fooling anyone. 5/50???? You guys are bananas. Right now, Hughes is worth about 3 yrs 25mill.
