2013 - Mariners Lineup

i like this year's lineup more than last year but this time last year i had hope that smoak and ackley were going to break out, i thought montero would be a little better, i even thought figgy had a chance to be acceptable and didnt think ryan and olivo would be as bad as they were....none of that turned out but at least seager and saunders proved themselfs.

im not sure morse will be better at the plate than jaso, but i do like our lineup more with morales, and a core of montero, saunders, seager and ackley who are all at a point in their career with they project improvement.

my problem with this team is we are terrible defensively and lack of speed.

Catcher defense right now is scary, but the infield looks fantastic otherwise. Morales and Smoak are both plus defenders. CF is in good to great shape depending on Gutierrez. The corner OF spots could be horrendous with Bay/Ibanez possibly being opposite Morse. If Guti wins back the CF job though, Saunders might be the best or 2nd best (Gordon) LF in baseball.

Speed is a real issue. As it is now Ackley, Saunders, and Seager are the wheels and that's really it. Ackley and Saunders have the tools to steal more bases IMO, and I bet Ackley is asked to do just that if he's leading off again. Andino and Wells are quality base runners on the bench. Smoak, Montero, Morales, Morse, and Ibanez are all slow as molasses and could potentially all be in the lineup at once, yuck. Nothing they can really do about that at this point aside from cutting Ibanez. Gonna be some slow double plays turned against SEA this year.

Wells will be in AAA or traded and Bay will start more than he should. Mark that down.

I don't see why you'd trade your best hitter for a rental. But that happened. It's not like Wells wasn't here so they signed Bay. The brought in him and Ibañez WITH Wells on the roster.

But Bay only gets $500k guaranteed.

I am serious about that tho. If Bay/Ibanez are a LF platoon, Jack and Wedge both need to be fired on the spot. Just awful.

Guti's injuries aren't the kind that last a long time an come back. They were pretty much freak things. IBS, getting hit with the pick off, etc.

We aren't going to carry 6 OF.
