There is no way in hell that users in the raps forum say one thing and then completely change their stance.

No way, no how...This does not happen at all

I like Amir. I've always said he can have a Varejao type of role and that his contract was fine for a backup big man playing 24 or so minutes a game.

I wouldn't mind resigning him to another 5 year deal.

    Lol, this.

We're kinda seeing the same thing with Derozan too.

    Keeper.

If and when Bargs is moved, a big rotation of Jonas, Ed and Amir is solid with lots of room for growth.

I never advocated for him to be moved/amnestied, but I can see why people would offer that opinion. Prior to this year Bargs was thought to be an untouchable, so having $16 mil tied up at the 4 spot in Bargs + Amir (not including Davis), is a lot of money to spend on just one position.

With Bargs seemingly on his way out, I would think most people have softened their stance on Amir's future with the team.

    Eh.

The role he has now (big man off the bench) is no different from the role he had back then. Our rotation when he was signed was Bargnani, Amir and Davis. Now we have Amir, Davis and Jonas.

Amir Johnson is a keeper for the Raps. Out of all the players on roster I would vote him most likely to take a paycut in order to bolster the team.

He's 25, turning 26. I highly doubt he takes any sort of significant pay cut when he could arguably play for another 8-10 yrs in this league.

Having said that, I like the kids game and he's improved that jump shot of his. He's also one of the guys on the team who hustles and get stuck in there so I think he's a good fit going forward.

That should be his role though, 1st big off the bench.

Yes, but Amir, Davis and Jonas are making a combined $11.5 mil this season (Jonas is still under rookie scale for another 3 years, Davis has 1 left); while Bargs is earning $10 mil on just his OWN. That trio provides better value for dollar than any combination of Bargs + two of them.

Meh i'm indifferent cuz we obviously have salary space to spare since we don't have a superstar taking up like 1/3 of the cap room.
Can you explain to me how he is over-paid? I checked some random teams and looked for players with contracts closest to his and I found names like: Boris Diaw, Francisco Garcia, Mike Conley and Brandon Bass. Except for Conley, I think that Amir out-performs most of those guys. Can you explain your thinking?

keep him. I thought he'd be the odd man out because Barfs was our current PF and Ed would be the possible future PF, but with Barfs out, Davis and Amir are both playing well.
