What ever happened to Albert Pujols as one of the MLB's best?

It's funny because at many points Albert Pujols was considered hands-down the best player in MLB. Many considered Pujols to be an all-time great and could go down as the best ever (arguably).

Now when you're thinking of the best players in MLB, Pujols is not one that you immediately think of. It's been 2 seasons now that his numbers have not been what they were.

To be just entering into his early 30's, the drop-off has been dramatic.

I wonder if the Angels regret the signing. Albert Pujols has become a shadow of what he once was.

That's what happens to guy in the post steroid era, they decline more naturally as most guys prime is in their late 20s (ages 27-29 or 30)

Well his numbers from 2003-2009 are as consistent as you can be so 27-29 was part of his prime.

And who knows if Pujols was using or not?

Has he had any positive tests since they instituted testing into baseball?

Last time i checked no he didn't.

His career numbers have been very consistent till the last 2 seasons when he entered his 30s, a time in which baseball players tend to pass their prime. That's indicative of a more natural regression.

How didn't Pujols peak from 28-29? He had his best WAR seasons in that time aside from 2003 and he was a consistent 8+ rWAR player in those years in between.

That goes in line with my previous point that most guys experience their prime from 27-30 years old.

He is the second best hitter of our generation, behind only Barry Bonds. Give the guy a break, he's 32. Do you actually expect him to go forever?
