He also said he's going to try to play a lot more inside-out through howard and gasol. Yesterday, especially in the first half, howard was indeed being fed down low so maybe this signals a change in d'antoni's outlook on the game.

People also have to remember that earl Clark is a solid defender and hussles to the ball. That helped in the back side with his ability to steal and block shots. Pau shouldn't even get his starting spot back now. We played good defense with this unit of Clark and Howard manning the inside and allow Kobe to do his thing.

yeah that was a good sign. it got howard going early on and the team played pretty good Defense. we are 1-0 in the new season.

Kobe guarding the best player plus Metta World Peace, Earl Clark, and Dwight Howard, now we're looking at a squad that'll be playing some defense

We don't need Kobe to guard the best player for the entire game. We just need him to play hard/smart on the defensive end.

If you want better defense the lineup should look like last game for good.

    nash, kobe, mwp, clark, howard.

also maybe look into a guy like a poor mans afflalo, tony allen, ariza type guy to spell him or switch onto just in case foul trouble bc you know kobe guarding guys like monte ellis is gonna cause him to pick up fouls quickly. Bring Pau off the bench and let him abuse the other teams second center. everyone wins.

Fast forward to tomorrow's pre-game press conference:

Reporter: Coach, about your comments stating that Kobe was going to take on a bigger defensive role...

    (MDA interrupts)

    D'Antoni: WW-Wait... who said that? I know I didn't say that.

this seems like a great move.

For instance I've been noticing that Nash shoots a very high pct a lot of the time; against Cleveland he was 3-4, with two 3's.

Using Kobe as the defensive wolverine, for one, will get Ron Artest amped up as well, because he will want some of that action too, so the intensity will go up. Kobe and Artest are still the two baddest backcourt dobermans in the league bar none.

Secondly, this gives Nash more control on offense, to work his own shots and his freelance plays, and then when he gets the ball to Kobe his shots will be even better.

I think this is a good idea. Kobe can still play great defense when he wants to. Guarding the other teams best player will keep engaged. The problem is that when he guards someone he doesn't really think deserves his full attention he starts roaming and trying to be like a free safety instead of sticking to his man and that's when he gets in trouble.

Pringles D: Let Kobe guard opposing star.

Pringles O: Let Nash move the ball and Kobe shot.

**** I can coach that too...

Damn.....Jeanie Buss is a F.A.W. Fine *** Woman and PJax is one lucky man. 11 rings and has a FAW and will have part ownership (maybe) in the Lakers. Now that's living large.

    Way to stay on topic

As most others have said as long as MDA can limit Kobe's minutes this is a great way for the team to go forward.
