Fair deal, one year see if he puts something together. Turn to Gose or look elsewhere if not.

I was a Rasmus believer but it seems more and more likely his 2010 season was a fluke. I understand the upside but you have no excuse for batting .225 back to back seasons.

The leash should be short. This team is going for a championship and we can't afford to have players bring the team down. Especially when there are other options.

If he stinks again, is he a non-tender candidate next year? He's already proven he can be terribly unproductive while still putting up the HR/RBI totals that the archaic arbitration system seem to favour. Another healthy raise and it could start to look real ugly.

Quick question: We can still choose to trade him before the season starts right?

Yup that's exactly what this deal is.

Fair money, if he proves he's worth it they can up his contract long term (or trade him) and if he doesn't play well then bye bye and let Gose or another option take CF.

    I don't know. 5M for a .223 avg. ?
The 23HR were ok but, a .260 avg would be much better. Way too many SOs. If he's going to SO so much I'd like to see 80+ walks then and 10 more hrs. Then he can become Adam Dunn.

Well this will be last chance. Like how many years does a player get to prove himself?

Well so far, he's had 1 chance with the Blue Jays. It's not like this is Adam Lind we're talking about.

But to answer your question more directly, a given players opportunities to prove himself will depend on who he is competing with for the job. Right now, Colby Rasmus is competing with Anthony Gose. Anthopoulos has said that he wants Gose to spend more time in AAA.

    Terrible comparison.

Dunn is a DH and doesn't contribute at all defensively.

Rasmus plays a good OF and gives us some pop at the CF position.

However, it would be nice for him to cut down his SO's, up his AVG, and walk more.
