Nieuwendyk optimistic Stars will re-sign Benn

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...tar-jamie-benn

The top unsigned player in the NHL is forward Jamie Benn, and he wasnít at the opening of Dallas Stars camp Sunday.

The restricted free agent was second in team scoring last season with 63 points (26-37) in 71 games and a pillar the Stars were building around.

But the deal has to make sense for both sides, and it doesnít yet.

"Iím optimistic that weíll have him back on the team, but it wonít be today," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk told ESPN.com on Sunday morning. "Weíll focus on the guys we have here because itís a short camp and we need to get ready. But in the meantime, certainly weíll keep working away at trying to get Jamie re-signed."

He better resign him. Without Benn this team has no hope.

I love Benn. He's going to be great imo
You need centerman that can play two ways and if they donít play two ways in the end, you canít win, because the guy you are counting on canít get himself on the right side of the puck enough. So sure he can score, he can score but his team loses every night, I didnít know that was the objective. I thought winning was the objective. So if you centers canít play down the middle, and canít play without the puck, you have no chance.

It's looking like he's going to miss at least one game because of this contract situation. Hopefully it gets resolved soon so he can get back on the ice.
