Ex-Chiefs OC Brian Daboll is re-joining the Patriots

Coach Bill Belichick announced Monday that ex-Chiefs OC Brian Daboll is re-joining the Patriots coaching staff, similar to the Josh McDaniels addition last January.

Maybe they're worried about McDaniels moving on after next season, or maybe BB is going to retire if they win the SB so McDaniels will slide to HC and Daboll will take over as OC.

I know it's crazy talk, but it actually makes sense.

I guess for now he'll just assist McDaniels. Good stuff.

    That Chief's offense....

I'm sure BB has his reasons and will make Daboll useful in some way.

    God I hope not

In his 4 years as OC (with 3 different teams)
    2009-3rd worst offense
    2010-2nd worse offense
    2011-10th worse offense
    2012-#1 worst offense

Also the guy who was Favre's QB coach when he was with the jets

Although I think he might help out with Vereen/Ridley, he did caoch some solid running backs (Hillis 2010, Bush 2011, Charles 2012)

He was also OC for the Browns, Fins, and KC - with vastly less talent than the Pats have. He actually did a good job for the Fins.

Right it doesn't have to be for one reason.

McD leaves, BB retires, McD gets named Asst HC, and Dabol steps in while McD is learning the ropes of taking over BB's job.... who knows, BB isn't talking. We'll see.

Might want to handicap those results with the talent he had on hand (and injuries).

Just thought I would add that he's known for being a running game guru. This is a talent driven league, and you can only do so much with the talent you are given. McDaniels looked like a mediocre offensive coordinator at St. Louis, but we all knew that he didn't have much talent to work with. Belichick and this organization identifies coaching talent better than any organization in my opinion, so I think this will be a good move.

It's great that he's a running game guru because we need our running game to come alive to win it this year. I don't have any faith in our run game against the top defenses. We've abandoned it and just slung the ball a ton of times. Baltimore can bring a tough run D(contrary to the stats) and San Fran is just brutal.
I think we can run it well enough on BAL, but if we go to the SB and play that 49er run defense....

Yet in both games against those teams this season, the offense scored over 30. We destroyed that Ravens defense, and if it weren't for a billion holding calls on the defense we win.

Establishing the run will help, but those teams are going to have trouble with the pace of the game if Brady is clicking. Baltimore has an older defense that has been on the field a lot lately, so they could definitely wear down in the 2nd half. This helps open up the run game as well. Also, Jim Harbaugh does not like substituting on defense very often, and that's partially why San Francisco ran out of gas in the 2nd half and allowed a comeback. Pushing the pace of the game and having productive drives early in the game is much more important, and will lead to holes for our backs. They just need to take care of the damn ball.

Mmmm I heard about that no substituting thing which sounds good for us. I thought the reason we started scoring in bunches on them in the 2nd half was because they started playing zone prevent D. Was it really because they simply ran out of gas?
