    2013 Zips Projections

The Pirates 2013 Zips Projections have been released. I always enjoy going through these and seeing how closely they match up with what I'm expecting.

Most of the projections seem pretty solid to me. At a quick glance there are a handful of players I would argue either up or down and I'm sure I'll mention that in more detail later but I thought I'd share this with everyone and see what they think.

Just for fun I made my own projections using fangraphs and this is what I came up with in comparison to ZIPs for the majors Pirates players.

    C: Martin - .311 wOBA, 2.4 WAR (ZIPs .308 wOBA, 2.3 WAR)
    C: McKenry - .274 wOBA, 0.8 WAR (.288, 1.1)
    1B: Jones - .329 wOBA, 1.2 WAR (.322, 1.2)
    1B: Sanchez - .317 wOBA, 1.4 WAR (.316, 1.5)
    2B: Walker - .328 wOBA, 2.9 WAR (.325, 2.9)
    3B: Alvarez - .338 wOBA, 3.1 WAR (.324, 2.7)
    SS: Barmes - .293 wOBA, 2.2 WAR (.273, 1.9)
    IF: Harrison - .278 wOBA, 0.5 WAR (.285, 0.8)
    LF: Marte - .310 wOBA, 2.8 WAR (.314, 2.6)
    CF: McCutchen - .368 wOBA, 5.6 WAR (.361, 5.3)
    RF: Snider - .314 wOBA, 1.2 WAR (.309, 0.8)
    RF: Tabata - .313 wOBA, 1.1 WAR (.303. 1.1)
    RF: Sands - .320 wOBA, 1.0 WAR (.303, 0.9)
    OF: Presley - .302 wOBA, 0.5 WAR (.312, 1.6)

The pitchers are almost impossible to get a true read on but as you can see the numbers calculated for me when I entered by projected rate stats match up fairly well with the ZIPs numbers.

I'd like if we got closer to your numbers this season

There isn't really all that much of a difference between them and that is by just using the little fangraphs tool. I did it for pitchers too and ZIPs really dislikes our pitchers, except Rodriguez for some strange reason, and if the Pirates come closer to my numbers there we are in good shape. Otherwise we are probably in big trouble.
