    Lakers draft pick watch

Since we're close to midseason and there's a real shot at this, let's use this thread to discuss what's going on in LA that benefits or hurts our chances at getting their (lottery) pick this year.

    1. Howard currently injured. Could be out at least another week
    2. Gasol is day to day last I've heard.
    3. As of yesterday, news broke that Jordan Hill is likely to miss the rest of the year with a hip injury.

LA's bench is weak so losing Hill is a big deal.

Even when (if) they get Howard and Gasol back, it will once again take some time to figure out chemistry.

If anyone has new news, post it and I'll update the thread title.

Currently LA is 5 games back of the 8th seed in the West. Houston and Portland are tied for the 8th seed. Houston owns the tie breaker over LA so far. Portland has split its two meeting swith LA so far.

So is the Lakers pick not protected? For some reason i thought it was lottery protected?

By my estimation the Lakers should finish around 39-43. Best case for them is 46-36. If they do finish 46-36 they'd probably be at best a 7-8 seed. Thats all assuming the beat who they should and lose to who they should. They very easily could do worse if Howard or Gasol stay hurt.

They'll have to make a trade soon. Gasol for multiple role players.

They need to but then If Howard is ever out, they really will not have anyone down low.

Plus Gasol is a tough move, he's a huge contract and not exactly young.

Earl Clark has been beasting and he fits in perfectly in the D'antoni system so IMO theu should move Gasol asap.

Well if it is only top 3 protected then we are good. No way they finish as top 3 worst teams in the NBA

^ That being said they could always get into the top 3 pick by just being lucky in the lottery.

we are bottom of the west now, Hornets are starting to win games. we are 4th in the lottery right now. Hoping we draft Shabazz, Mclemore, Noel or Goodwin in that order.

Lakers are starting to pick up steam. It's hard to see that team not make the playoffs. Barring injury, I don't think Utah, Houston, and Portland will be able to keep pace.
