Wooten joins non-roster list

The Brewers have added minor-league right-hander Rob Wooten to their list of non-roster invitees to spring training, bringing the number to 18 in that category.
Wooten, 27, spent most of the 2012 season at Class AAA Nashville, going 0-2 with a 3.93 ERA in 40 relief appearances. He also made 17 relief appearances for Class AA Huntsville, going 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA.

He's been a solid pitcher though the years. He is coming off a long time off thanks to injury but it's a minor league deal so it's not like they're spending millions on the guy. If he works out, he makes the club. If he wants to play in the minors and see what happens it doesn't hurt the team at all. I expected more of these kinds of signings because there's really not much of a risk if it doesn't work out. Better than Gagne, Riske and a few other signings made throughout the past few years.
It's a minor league deal. It's not like it's costing someone good a job. If he pitches well enough, you have a vet you can lean on. If he fails, there's no harm. There's always a handful of guys people would stick a fork in that work out. Granted, there's plenty that don't but it doesn't hurt the teams when it's a minor league dea..
