His defense is still pretty bad. I'm hoping he can hit closer to an .800 OPS rather the 2012 offense he showed. If he has another 2012-type season, he's not a long term solution.

But to me it just speaks to the lack of major league depth that Murph is a top 10 second baseman.
    Exactly, the competition is grim.

What are you basing this projection on?

Why is everyone laughing? 2B is maybe the weakest position in baseball right now and Murphy is a quality hitter, Ill take his offensive production any day out of the 2B position. His defense gets better every year too, If it improves he's a guy hat can be a stalwart on thsi team for years.

Why do people want him traded? Not like we have a replacement, and he's good and undervalued too. Anyone who thinks he shoudl eb traded... well its a good thing youll never be a GM

I have nothing against Murphy. I think on the right team he can be a very valuable piece.

I'm just wondering if he can be exploited in a trade for something more valuable for the Mets.

His 2011 season and the power he showed in 2009. He's basically coming into his prime and should be healthier than he was last season so we could be better all around.

...yeah I think I'd take all those guys over Murphy.

We worried about Murphy far more than we should have last year. We have much bigger problems.

People underrate Murphy. He's third best position player on the team right now. His defense was actually adequate by the end of the season. He'll probably be more comfortable with 2nd base next year and be able to focus more on his hitting, which should mean a better season.

I think 10 home runs, 40 doubles and a .300 average are very possible, along with roughly average defense. That would make him closer to a top 5 2nd baseman. If he hits like he did in 2011, that's All Star performance from 2nd base. I think he can do it.

Uggla and Utley seem to be on the down side.

There is a couple of young guys, but nobody great.

Murphy was 17 in WAR and #9 in wOBA last year. Obviously his defense is why his WAR is that low, but offensively yeah you can say he is top 10 around baseball.
You don't think that Dustin Pedroia is a star ? Sorry to disagree. While Cano puts up gawdy statistics, I would take Pedroia on my team over him any day. The guy gives you 110% every time. Didn't he play with a broken hand last year.

Cano had quite a post season performance last year didn't he.

Give me the Dustin Pedroias any time over the Robinson Canos.

It's not that we're underrating Murphy, it's the fact that you're right, he's the 3rd best position player which shows just how bad our team is.
