If he says one day that he wants the record, then Ill believe he can do it(this man can do anything he puts his mind to), but other than that its a long shot.

Durability, great vision and ball handling. So far AP has that as well. But he also has explosion and power. I said i was being a homer. Obviously he isn't the best of all time RIGHT NOW. I said when all is said and done.

Maybe but a lot needs to happen. Its so annoying that sports fans says EVERYBODY is the next somebody. Crosby is the next Gretzky, Lebron is the next Jordan, AP is the next Emmit, Weidman would beat Anderson, Rory is the next Tiger Woods. How did those all turn out? Crosby cant stay on the ice, Lebron has already tarnished himself by ditching Cleveland and isn't a clutch as Jordan, Jordan scored 40 points with food poisoning( not flu like symptoms like Kobe and Lebron claim to have ) AP's leg will bother him as he gets older, plus emmit played with a separated shoulder and won 3 rings, Weidman vs Silva HAHAHAHA (anyways) Rory isn't as NEAR dominate as tiger was when he was young. People forget how great the greatest were...its a shame

Peterson needs almost 10,000 more yards to catch Emmitt. There is no way in hell he's getting that. He will never last that long.
If Adrian Peterson plays as many years as Emmit, I think Peterson would beat Emmit's mark by at least a thousand yards.

Emmit Smith had 2,007 rushing attempts in his first six seasons for a total of 8,956 yards.

Adrian Peterson has had 1,754 rushing attempts in his first 6 seasons for a total of 8,849 yards.

Emmit Smith had suffered more hits and tackles at this point in his career than Adrian Peterson has, so why is it so hard to believe that Peterson can't hold up just like Smith did?

Didn't he just fall short of his goal of beating Dickerson's record?

Because Smith never messed up his ACL and MCL like AP did. There's no way Peterson's still going anywhere close to as long as Emmitt did.

Dr. James Andrews even said AP's knee showed no sign of wear and tear. Truly amazing.

Now lets hear from somebody that isn't a complete homer!!!! AP has 29 fumbles opposed to Emmitts 14 through 6 years, Smith has 96 TDs= AP has 76, Smith had 8956 yards=AP has 8849 yards, Smith had 450 FD and AP only has 421, Smith only lost the ball 22 times while in just six years AP has lost it 15 times, Emmitt has a MVP, AP does not( manning wins it this year) Smith had 6 pro bowls and AP has 5.

    now on to the playoffs!!!!

Emmitt won three super bowls in his first six years and played in 13 playoff games while AP has only played in four playoff games. Emmitt had 17 TDs compared to AP's 5 TD's, Emmitt had 1217 yards while AP only has 367 yards..

Running backs don't last long AP wont be that exception to the rule with linebackers getting bigger and faster, QB's throwing more, having a bad O line, playing in Minnesota with snow which can cause injury, teams running a two back system, AP fumbling all the time. Its not happening

    GUYS ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!

Superbowls? He did have the likes of Aikman which certainly helped compared to Ponder

The Cowboys were a powerhouse, the Vikings aren't.

Emmitt also has carried the ball almost a full seasons worth more than AP at this point in both of their careers.

I bet AP has more 20+ runs. I bet AP has more yards after contact as well.

    You're right, that is amazing.
However, I think you'd have to admit he might be at a slightly higher chance of injury than other players. AP's injury was so brutal, there's no way that it just never comes up again. Smith's longevity in the league was extremely rare. Just cause AP had such a great year this year doesn't mean he'll still be dominant entering his mid-30s, as is being suggested.

    That's ridiculous.

Adrian Peterson is a one man team.

Those Cowboys teams were loaded, with Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, etc etc. A Hall of Fame QB, and a Hall of Fame WR.

If Adrian had a half decent QB and passing offense, the defense he goes against would not expect a run every time, taking tons of pressure off AP.

AP has been stuck with the likes of Ponder, and Tavaris Jackson type QBs. Hell if he played when Daunte Cullpepper and Randy Moss played with the Vikings, he would dominate, that'd be enough for him.

Your argument is ridiculous and if anything proves AP is a better overall RB than Smith as Smith played on an actual TEAM.
