Giants sign japanese 2b to minor league deal

I hear #SFGiants closing in on signing 2B Kensuke Tanaka to minor-league deal with spring-training invite. Hit .300 for Nippon Ham Fighters.
    Via 5pointer via John Shea.

    Theriot's replacement.

Now we know the real reason why the Giants signed him. Larry Baer sees those sun glasses and thinks $$$$$$

    Interesting signing.

Never understood why SF hasn't dominated the Japanese player market. So easy to sell in the bay area. I remember Shinjo having the hugest following even though he couldn't hit a lick.

In the 90's I frequently did business with the Japanese, and that means getting drunk and talking. I did great over there, but I never got a straight answer regarding "Why not the Giants?" Apparently the SF Giants weren't "acceptable" or an "appropriate" team. I never did get a straight answer out of them, but you never do when they have something unpleasant to say. Apparently, they don't like us, for whatever reason. I dunno, maybe they think SF is small beans?

    Whatever. F'em.

I wish the new guy the best, he'll need it. Stepping over Theriot's hurdle will be no easy task.

Being the DH in the series-clinching World Series game is no small task.
