great post. I'm reading tweets from other media outlets, b/c many of these writers benefited from this era... including "authoring" books. Their success is b/c of this era... and now they take an opposite stand.
This might be the best time to re-evaluate who decides the Hall. In the 1930's sure, writers had a major impact. In 2012, they do not. Some don't even cover the game fulltime! Their papers don't have the resources!
2012 World Series Champs Auto Checklist: Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez (2), Ryan Vogelsong, George Kontos (2), Buster Posey, Brian Sabean, Bruce Bochy, Brandon Crawford, Sergio Romo, Barry Zito...
Biggio, Piazza, Bagwell, and Schilling I thought were all guys who deserved to be in and had no real links to PEDs. The HOF is some ******** boys league. It's like some elitest fraternity holding grudges formed off of suspicion.
change it to what though? hofer's,players, and average fans are just as divided on the subject as the writers are.what do you want to change it to?
we all know why they didnt get in in: steriods or cheating. my question is how did biggio not get in? 3000 hits and no steriod connection. thats the problem, voters keeping him out solely because he shouldn't be a "first ballot" hall of famer, which is bull ****. you are either a hall of famer or you aren't.
30 Team Stadium Checklist: 11 to go
1) Yankees 2) Orioles 3) Rays 4) Red Sox 5) Mets 6) Braves 7) Phillies 8) Nationals 9) Marlins 10) Pirates 11) Padres 12) Astros 13) Mariners 14) Twins 15) Cubs 16) White Sox 17) Cardinals 18) Indians 19) Tigers 20) Royals (May 2014)
I'm not upset that no one was elected. I think most of the voters want to wait a year any way. I think some will get a decent boost next year from the voters that like to penalize people from being a first ballot hall of famer.
I haven't looked at the results yet. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing this year.
I am sad for Kenny Lofton.
Deserves more, he and Sweet Lou.
He said that he doesnt have any ill will topwards the players that have been linked to PED's. He said if he was playing he would have taken them. It was the climate of the game at that time.
I agree regarding the writers and its a shame because there are some really good writers out there, but we live in an era where everyone has a blog and the idea of newspapers and radio is an after thought. It's all about the blogosphere. I could have one tomorrow and with the right marketing tools and writing i can become an overnight sensation. Ido not have any business having a vote for the Hall. I feel the men who left their families and played the game I love deserve to have that vote.
I also dont agree with the first ballot BS. If you are a HOF'er you are a HOF'er.
As much as i want to visit the hall, this makes me have to think long and hard about it. It's a farce as of now for me.

It really irks me when people keep grouping Sosa with Bonds/Clemens. He's just not in the same conversation.
There really is a baseball god.

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”
