As bad as Dallas OL is, their first pick should be on the DL. They need a monster DT to stuff the run. Gotta replace Ratliff and Brent

Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com explores that issue, and he identifies the potential coordinators who could help implement the new approach.
Archer suggests that Dave Wannstedt (who served as defensive coordinator during the 1992 Super Bowl season), Monte Kiffin, and Lovie Smith could serve as the next defensive coordinator, if the move is made to the 4-3.
We love the idea of bringing Lovie Smith to his home state of Texas; last week, we suggested that he’d be a good choice to be the franchise’s next head coach. Maybe the next best thing would be to put him in charge of the team’s defense.![]()
5 mins have come and gone Rob :P
[QUOTE=Jack of Blades;25026342]I figured that too, I just know jack **** about 4-3 defenses. I think if anybody can make the transition though, it's Bruce Carter with his superior athleticism.[/QUOTEI agree that bruce carter could def play olb... hes as athletic as they come at lb shouldnt be a problem... if we switch to 4-3 we def need a big run stuffer I think ratliff is done
I loved Rob Ryan, i think he did pretty good for having a defense with the worst D-line and also having to play so much because the offense couldnt run and convert on 3rd downs all year. I would love a 4-3 again because we cant get enough pressure and teams just make Ware play coverage to take him out of game

Garrett says the Cowboys are going with a different philosophy on defense. Looks like we are going to a 4-3.
man I thought this team should have been in a 4-3 the last 5 years with our personnel. Tom Landry invented the 4-3. It is part of our legacy here in Dallas and I think it is blasphemous to not run a 4-3. lol
The main reason we went to a 3-4 was because the prices for OLB's we very low compared to the DE's when Parcells took over. It was more of a value transition. However, now 3-4 OLBs salaries are skyrocketing and the 4-3 DE is becoming an increasingly good value.
Also, Ware as he gets older will not be able to drop into coverage as he did in years past, because of age/etc. He needs to be rushing the passer 24/7, in a 4-3 it kills 2 birds with one stone.
I like Spencer as a 4-3 Strong side OLB much more than a 4-3 DE. I think he would be too small to play the strong side on the DL.
If we move to a 4-3 I am not so sure Spencer will be worth his large contract he will for sure get. I would franchise him though to get a 2nd in return for the signing team. He will be signed by someone if tagged.
Daryl Smith would be a nice OLB to pick up. Also Richard Seymour or Osi Umenyiora would be very interesting opposite Ware on the DL. Maybe Henry Melton or Cliff Avril if he can put a bad season behind him.
Point is, there are a ton of options to upgrade a 4-3 DL and you could still save money as opposed to signing Spencer.
