I think the most important part is the Tigers' defense blows.

That too, haha. Would you put it past them to offer Barney in this trade? I love Barney, but he doesn't fit in on a team that needs run producers. Detroit on the other hand needs some defense, and he could really help them out.

Barney sucks (other than defensively, I guess), if we can get anything - much more, a 23 year old team controlled pitcher in Porcello, I'd be more than fine with that.

And while he was young for AA and the AFL, he had a sub .700 ops in about 100 games combined at those two places. He also struck out 107 times and had 24 walks during that time. Meh..
    Castellanos >>> Vitters

Of course a guy will have a high BABIP when he's hitting .400. .148 IsoSLG in the FSL at 20, 23 XBHS in the FSL before hitting 23 more in AA at 20. He's also walked significantly more than Vitters did in the pre-AA minors...hit more doubles in the pre-AA minors...only real advantage Vitters has is in HRs and SOs.

BTW these two the seemingly realistic list of players that could be landed isn't bad:

    Porcello
    Castellanos
    Britton
    Matusz
    Tillman
    Arrieta
    Garcia
    Schoop
    Rondon
    Reimold
    Crosby

    etc

I don't see the point in Porcello right now. I don't think he's all that different from what we already have.

    i like that list
i like more that Barney (makes me want Shoop or Castellanos) Marmol (Matusz i love) are involved or rumored to be involved and they (Marmol/Barney) seem like fits for either team.
those are my targets and throw a porcello on top of it.

i did try to draw up a trade and it does feel like a 4th team needs to jump in.

The more I think about it, the more I want Schoop in a deal.Really like the plate discipline and he'll be 21 all year in AA next year. I love the thought of having him at 2B with Baez at 3B.

Agreed. Porcello for Barney would be wonderful, but I think They are gonna want a little more for porcello. They can have Campana too

No way to Barney for Porcello.
Part of the reason I would want Porcello is because of Barney playing behind him. He's a sinkerballer who could make a living getting ground balls to Castro and Barney up the middle.

Half a decade younger than all but one and 3x the amount of control of everyone besides Villanueva, Wood, Jackson, and Shark.

Yeah forgot Smyly, but I also think he gets overrated here anyway.

The other Hoyer had this to say about Jackson:

JH: Yea, it is a four-year deal and this is a guy who has been really durable. He came up too early, and I think he would even admit that, he came up too early but since he broke back into the rotation with the Rays in 2007 he’s had six consecutive seasons of 30 starts. He’s been durable. He’s had some really good seasons and he’s had some solid seasons but he really hasn’t had a bad season. And not only is he a guy that is durable and eats innings but also with his athleticism and age there may still an upside which is a rare thing for a free agent.
All of the bold describe Porcello.

Porcello makes sense by dealing Garza/Shark for Spec's in another deal. doesnt make sense if garza is involved and the cubs dont get a HAUL.

This. From what TY said before, we turned down Olt and Martin for Garza...why would they sell lower on him now? I'm thinking Garza stays put in this scenario unless there is something significant heading back.

And Gato, I think Smyly gets overrated here too, but I'd still like to have him if at all possible. Porcello is the main piece I think we're looking at in this deal, though. If we got Porcello, we would almost have to trade some arms. It would be a mess of Garza/Shark/EJax/Baker/Feldman/Villanueva/Wood/Porcello.
