Im guessing 24 and move to NL will improve #'s, but what else?
I see a ton of hits per inning and no k's to make up for it.
If his ceiling is a 3, I dont see trading alot to get him.
would be pretty disapointed if he was a main piece in any garza/shark departure. dont even see giving up much more than travis wood, who Im hopeful could be a solid 4 at the least.
Won't be Garza or Shark unless it's a much bigger deal involving Nicky C. However Wood and Lake were the rumored names but no confirmation really. Porcello gets a bad rap because of the putrid defense he had playing behind him and he is an extreme groundball pitcher so that would play very well with our defense.
    LETS GO CUBBIES...LETS GO DUKE!!!

Detroit doesn't have the greatest infield defensively so a lot of those hits he gives up could probably be due to lack of range/positioning. Verlander and Scherzer can get away with it by striking everybody out but guys like Porcello who need to use their defense tend to suffer.
Rizzo, Barney, Castro and Stewart is shaping up to be a pretty good infield defense and could pay dividends for a sinkerballer ground ball pitcher like Porcello coming over.
I wouldn't trade Garza or Shark for him but if he could be had at the right price I'd be OK with Porcello.

Porcello also throws very hard. He could very well improve his K numbers.

And then. He made them pancakes.

    To further that:

Porcello peaked in peak velocity at about 97 in early 2010. Basically, he has an arm strong enough get to 97, yay good. It's nothing out of the realm from his scouting reports as an amateur or possibly even prospect, I forgot.

Anyway, last year he hit 95 more than any other season in his career, threw a couple of games where he was 92-94, and averaged 92 on the season.

Hard sinker...groundballs...wind less of a factor in either direction...Cubs have a nice infield D...he's showing at least one good speed pitch in his career as a season, and needs to figure out what breaking ball he gets the best results with as a pro. I want him to start throwing the curveball again.

Basically Porcello just might be America.

Cubs get Castellanos Porcello Schoop Matszu
    Tigers get Hardy Marmol
    O's get Garza Peralta

    who says no?
tigers are paying Castellanos for Garza value who the O's would want for Hardy

I'm betting the Tigers say **** no and the Orioles laugh.

    Hows about:

Cubs get: Porcello, Castellanos, Schoop, Matusz, E. Rodriguez
    Tigers get: Garza, Hardy
Orioles get: Rondon, Marmol, Soriano, Crosby

    ?

I'd sign the bottom line on that^

I really doubt we're dangling Garza on this trade though.

I watched some Porcello clips on mlb, dudes got some nice movement on his pitches. Like Carlos Zambrano when he was good movement.
I hope the "Appel" doesn't fall far from OUR tree.

I don't see this happening. I think if it did, Barney would definitely be going somewhere, because if Hardy is leaving, Baltimore's going to want someone. I'd like this:

    Cubs get: Porcello, Castellanos,and Matusz

    Tigers get: Hardy, Marmol, Vitters

Orioles get: Soriano + cash, Barney, and Bowden.

Only question, would Detroit give up Rondon after spending all off-season hyping him up as their next closer? If they would, I would do that trade before Detroit/Balt think twice.
    Screw sabermetics.

Living here in Michigan I watch a lot of Tigers games and one of the reasons for his #s is that he's a ground ball pitcher and Detroit's defense blows. It has for a few years and it got worse last year with Cabrera moving from 1st to 3rd. They have a horrible platoon at 2nd, Peralta has no range at short and Fielder is below average at 1st. I think Porcello would definitely benefit from a) moving to the NL and b) from the improved infield defense. I think he has the stuff to have better K numbers and is still young enough to improve.

This. There is potential room for strikeout growth, even furthering his value.
