Grizzlies and Suns discuss Rudy Gay Trade

Y! Sources: Memphis, Phoenix engaged in trade discussions on Rudy Gay.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns are engaged in trade talks centered on forward Rudy Gay, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Grizzlies have been shopping Gay to multiple teams, and found an interested trade partner with the Suns, sources said.

There's no framework of a possible deal in place, but the Grizzlies have expressed a strong desire that any package involving Gay include Suns forward Jared Dudley and future first-round draft picks, sources said.

In an effort to avoid paying luxury tax in the short term, as well as get off the $17.8 million and $19.3 million owed Gay in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, new Memphis management has aggressively shopped Gay. The Grizzlies have made proposals on Gay to several teams, front-office sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Gay will make $16.4 million this year.

The Suns have been mindful of their financial state under Phoenix owner Robert Sarver, and there are still doubts within the organization they will ultimately be able to absorb the remainder of Gay's contract.

The Suns own the Los Angeles Lakers' first round picks in 2013 and 2015.

They don't seem to match up well for a trade. Gortat is the Suns highest paid and most valuable piece but with Z-Bo and Gasol there isnt really a need for him.

As much as I'd hate to say it, Dudley would probably have to be involved. He is one of the most underrated role players in the league today.

3 way trade with Boston a possibility?

Only reason I say that is because the Celts are interested in Gortat and have a decent 3 in Jeff Green I think they would be willing to ship for the right deal to Memphis? throw some picks around and maybe something works out?

Article says Dudley and future firsts potentially. If we're absorbing that fat contract, it better not be our own first. I don't want him. I want this team to rebuild. Front office is desperate not to get fired.

Perfect place for him to be the number 1 option like he has always wanted to be . I would assume Beasley and some other pieces will be going to the Grizz

Suns fans would love to dump Beasley in this type of move but he's not going to help any team in this league.

I don't think that will be nearly enough, BUT, I think as a Suns fan, it'd be acceptable.
We'd rather rebuild but if the front office won't listen to us, then Gay isn't the worst piece to put you back into limbo.
