Bills hired Pettine as DC-post#12

    Per Cimini

Confirmed that Bills have requested permission from Jets to speak with DC Mike Pettine for same position, as reported by @footballscoop

Looks like we will have a big overhaul at the three coordinator positions

More coaching changes may be on the horizon.

On the same day that the Bills formally introduced Doug Marrone as their new head coach, the Jets’ division rivals requested permission to speak to Mike Pettine for their defensive coordinator job, according to a league source. Pettine turned down Gang Green’s contract extension offer earlier in the season and is under contract only through the end of the January.

It would be a coup for the Bills if they could get the Jets’ play caller, whose unit finished in the Top 5 in total defense from 2009-2011 before ranking eighth this season. It’s unknown whether the Jets will grant permission.

Let him go. Let everyone go. The further away from the season we get, the more I think we should just clean house.

The issue here isn't whether or not he should go, that was obvious to everyone that he wouldn't be back and rex would have three new coordinators next year.

The real problem here is that you don't want him in the division. I couldn't care less where he goes, I just don't like him going to Buffalo. I think Marrone will put together a good offense. I just don't want someone who knows the Jets personnel and philosophy going to a team in the division.

I still wouldn't be shocked if Rob Ryan were here next year as the new DC, unless they hire Gamble to be the GM and he brings the 9er DL coach in to be the new DC and coach in waiting.

I do think there is a chance that Rex will get a contract extension as well to him him attract a quality offensive coordinator. No big time OC comes in to work for a lame duck coach unless think they will get the interim HC tag if the guy is fired.

He should leave, it's better for both sides. Still think the best fit is Dallas LB coach Matt Eberflus. He's coached under Rob Ryan for years and thus should have at least some knowledge of Rex's system, he's low profile enough that Ryan could take more control of the defense but has enough experience to help, and if he could help bring over Victor Butler that would be a HUGE addition.

Another DC possibility would be Dennis Thurman. Not only was the secondary fantastic but Ryan clearly has a lot of respect for Thurman. Remember a few years ago Thurman was asked to interview to be the new Oakland DC. Rex would not let him interview. I wonder if that means he is a potential DC in waiting for when Pettine leaves.

He's probably the best coach on this staff. I would prefer to not lose him.

On second thought...probably I end up not caring.

Exactly. Goodbye and enjoy Buffalo and all the snow. I read the reason he wants to leave is the money that was offered in his contract renewal was not what he wanted. Bring on Thurman. He actually go Cromartie to play like the Pro Bowler he is. The other thing i noticed is that Kyle Wilson played better. He still needs work but you can see improvement.

I've heard that rumor recently. Unfortunately the source of that rumor was unnamed.

@MMehtaNYDN: More changes for the Jets. Assistant DBs coach Jim O'Neil will join Mike Pettine as a member of his Bills' staff, per source. #nyj

Well the wrong side of the ball is also leaving haha...

This sort of sucks - I like Pettine so I am happy for him. He has a lot of tools to work with so he could line up for success.

Kind of pissed the Asst. DBs coach is gone.
Week 17 following JETS @ BILLS, a great friend and I got our picture taken with the only player of either side to come out and meet fans

Dream Draft = Chance Warmack (#9) and Jonathan Cooper (#13 from TB)
