    Lou Brock vs Tim Raines

I ask because it's an interesting discussion.

The question is 'who would you rather have for their entire career?'

Brock was Raines and Henderson before the 80's. But both would eventually surpass him statistically, Henderson easily.

Brock is not a sabr 'good' ball player. Raines appears far superior statistically. But Brock had some intense and special live moments in his career.

I bring this up because Bob Costas did.

    Raines - .294/.385/.425 - 123 OPS+, 808 out of 954 SB, 66.2 rWAR, 70.6 fWAR, wSB - 101.5, 10359 PA
    Brock - .293/.343/.410 - 109 OPS+, 939 out of 1245 SB, 42.8 rWAR, 53.2 fWAR, wSB - 75.0, 11240 PA

I can see why Raines is the easier choice. It's interesting that so many have a hard time putting Raines in but Brock got in so easily.

    Something that really stands out

    Raines - 1330/966
    Brock - 761/1730

    Times on Base
    Raines - 3977
Brock - 3833 (and almost 1000 more PA)

With the deepest of regrets I am announcing that I will be leaving Pro Sports Daily. No reason in particular but wanted to thank everyone for a great 6 years here. Lots of great discussion and good poll series as well. Also fun re-drafts. Best of luck to you all in the future.

I figured more traditional fans would weigh in, since Brock did some things over Raines. But all you have to do is look at the stats a little bit and see that Raines is easily superior.

Raines is getting royally jobbed. He put up incredible lines. Took a ton of walks and stole a ton of bases at a ridiculously efficient rate, with a consistently strong amount of XBH.

In the WS (Brock was in '64, '67, '68 - and I saw the last two) he was among the greatest and most terrifying players I've ever seen. Bill James said in his 2nd Abstract that Brock is the greatest WS performer of his lifetime.

    92 PA's:

    2B: 7
    3B: 2
    HR: 4
    SB: 14
    CS: 2
    GDP: 0

In comparison Raines was a stumblebum in the WS, and meh in the playoffs.

In 34 games and 134 PA's Raines had:

    2B: 7
    3B: 0
    HR: 1
    SB: 3
    CS: 3
    GDP: 4

Raines had a meh slash of: .270/.340/.349

Raines belongs in the HOF. Brock is a very low tier guy/out by the numbers, but, if you saw him live I think many of you would say he was deserving.
