Could the Dodgers pursue Robinson Cano in 2014?

If you didn't already know, Robinson Cano is set to hit free agency after the 2013 season. Back in early December Mark Feinsand and Christian Red of The New York Daily news reported this:
"He’s not giving them a hometown discount, and they seem to be more interested in keeping their payroll down than winning," said one source while another added: “He knows he’s the best player on the Yankees ... There’s no reason for him not to be paid that way.”

The Dodgers will have a decision to make because current 2nd baseman Mark Ellis' contract will have a club option for 2014 worth $5.75 million. He will be 36 but is an above-average defender and a good vet to have in the clubhouse.
    Thoughts?

He's going to demand big money. Who knows where the Dodgers will be financially by then. I'm sure nothing bad, but wonder if they'll make those kind of moves.

Dont want him, although he is a good player he would demand a lot of money and is fairly streaky. I think we can get by and let some of the kids develop, too bad joc p is a lefty he could be a great infielder with his glove and speed. I dont know why Alex Castellanos
isn't playing 2nd he was an absolute beast last year and has played 2nd and third a lot. I really hope they give him a chance.
    Go dodgers!!!!

I bet the Yankees sign him to an extension before he hits FA. The trend of doing this will likely increase now that the Dodger have big money at their disposal.

While I would like his bat in the Lineup, his age and price drastically reduce his appeal.

Our 2B and 3B moves will be very interesting over the next few years.

2B is the biggest question mark going forward, catcher will be up in the air soon too I believe...

Within the next 3-4 years we are likely going to need 2B, SS, 3B and a catcher..

I'm guessing Hanley gets resigned for 2-3 years and If AJ has a good year he will too.

Aj will be like 35 or 36 by the time he hits free agency. i don't think we will resign him.
I don't think Elis gets resigned but i think the most natural position for hanley Ramirez is 2nd base, it plays to his athleticism and reduces the impact of his arm.
For 3rd we have that Seager kid, who know's if he will be any good though.

SS is a hard hole to fill for most teams, there is a reason Arizona traded Bauer for one.

based on what? Last year was the first time in his career he was rated as a positive defender and here was his triple slash vs lefties .239/.309/.337 and he had a 7 WAR while being an MVP candidate, that should tell you just how hard he crushed righties.

the one thing is he hits better better on the road, with the exception of Slugging which isn't surprising considering wear he plays though he still does that pretty well on the road.
